I hated this abomination from around the Avengers 390's. Hawkeye never looked worse. I'll see your Crossing Era Hawkeye and raise you this... Heroes Reborn era brown Plantman Hawkeye by Liefeld and this... as bad as the Crossing era Hawkeye was (and it was bad) these two are worse... -M

I remembered the Crossing Era Hawkeye - MRP and that's was a travesty back into days and still is a travesty of today too.

The Heroes Reborn version I never acknowledged as real.

At least the Buscema one is recognizably Hawkeye. The worst thing about the others is possibly the ridiculous body proportions.

I don't mind the BWS one - maybe it would look silly if anyone else drew it, but it seemed alright for the BWS style.
But then, I've never been one to find Dr Doom's "skirt" look dumb, or Darkseid's, or the Marvel Hercules's. It always seemed to fit in with their vaguely Medieval or archaic looking costumes.
I could be remembering this wrong after all these years, but at the time wasn't that Hawkeye outfit supposed to be something he was given to wear while working in a carnival or something? He was taking a break from superheroing and went back to working in a circus, something like that - previously, as the dialogue in the panel indicates, he had been Goliath for his last several years as an Avenger and this was part of a big comeback as his original persona, Hawkeye the archer.

Ben Grimm's "Thing Suit" worn during the time he was temporarily cured of the effects of the cosmic rays:
There was a helmet as well, completing the look. I simply cannot understand why Ben would choose to wear something that emulates the form which caused him so much anxiety and grief, let alone lounge around in it while watching TV and enjoying an adult beverage. Maybe there's a perfectly logical in-story explanation for it (I haven't read these issues of FF), but it nearly ruined the Essential Marvel Two-In-One Vol. 1 for me.

It's the overall tunic look and doesn't look bad to me OVER another outfit (like Doom's armor). Context of the times is actually a bigger issue, as macho, posturing Clint going with a mini-skirt, HIGHLY popular with young women, gave us all a little pause. Near the end of the Kree-Skrull War, he fought off some Skrulls with "two sticks and a string" but the ship crashed near a traveling carnival in Greece that just HAPPENED to have Clint's old pal Hercy as an amnesiac strongman in the troupe. So, yes, that's where he got the costume. Barry's design was too "British Mod" for the American fans and he ditched it and the Avengers at the same time a few months later. Plus I cannot support a costume that resulted in the quote "Who put Peter Pain inside my headband?"

Plus I cannot support a costume that resulted in the quote "Who put Peter Pain inside my headband?" I just noticed that in that first panel he seems to be standing on the roof of a car, so all the nearby crowd looking up at him from below probably got a good look at his, er, "bow and arrows". I've always liked his original purple costume, for some reason. It was cluttered and a bit hokey with the big letter H, but it worked anyway, for some reason. Far superior (IMO) to his DC counterpart, Green Arrow.

Your entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong it is . Green Arrow's costume, in all of its different iterations, has always drawn on Robin Hood imagery, thereby having a palpable link to archery and establishing the character's theme.. Hawkeye's purple outfit is just garish, as befits a carnival performer.

Yup, it's a carny's outfit and I LOVE it! Big stupid H on the forehead in case he forgets what his name starts with! It fits Butthead Clint to a T.

My favourite character is Spidey and nothing pains me more than this. What were they thinking? As someone who dislikes Superman, the fact they gave Spidey the ability to fly and then also gave him this mish mash costume just bothered me. To be fair, that's not really a Spider-Man costume. That's Captain Universe's costume. It's just being worn over the top of Spider-Man's costume.
