Maybe it's just me, but this year's theme seems tougher than usual. I'm just not having any comics immediately jump into my mind like I usually do when a Classic Comics Christmas event is announced. I think maybe the trouble is that, as a rule of thumb, I'm not much of a team-up guy. To quote Sherlock Holmes, working out a Top 12 team-ups is going to be a 'three-pipe problem'. Yeah, I'm struggling some here. I have one that's a lock for my top spot, and then a second good one came to mind, but otherwise this is going to require some brainwork. |

I'm surprised some of you are struggling, but maybe it's a good thing that you're challenged. My only problem was winnowing the candidates down. I basically ended up with a list of stories that mean something to me apart from the content. And I've already swapped out an entry on my "final" list.

My only 'struggle' is whittling it down to 12. I've had some "deliberations with myself" over the last few days. Which is good!

Have worked up a rough dozen and now sorting through for decisions. All my choices again will reflect my 70's/80's collecting days as those are stories which stand out and remain memorable in my mind. And think about how many more choices there will be in the future, considering ALL the crossovers/team-ups of franchises and companies these last 4-6 years! Interesting to revisit in another 10 years or so to see what newer classics make the cut... Truly gonna be some missed choice team-ups though considering the limitations for choosing. Though it will make it all the more interesting.  |

I'm bummed that one of the books I wanted to add came out in October 2010... shame, because its a great crossover.

I have 12. They may not be the final twelve. I have two or three I'm on the fence about. One of my problems is that work is ridiculously busy. Which makes it harder to sit down and think beyond the easy answers.

Roughly 80% of my collection is X-Men (ineligible), Teen Titans (ineligible), Post-Crisis Superman (usually solo or poorly written by John Byrne) and Batman (usually solo or with Robin). I grew up in the late '80s when these franchises reigned supreme and the team-up book was dead and buried, so this year is definitely one of my more challenging ones. I suspect it favors those who grew up on Silver and Bronze Age books.
That being said, I have 13 possibilities thus far, though I'll admit that three of them don't particularly excite me. I'm sure I'll come up with more as I continue to give thought to the assignment!

I've got 6 so far that I like. I also have a few more that I'm less excited about, but I'm going to keep noodling on it.

This is the fun part of the Christmas Classic. Making choices, rearranging their placement, tossing out some, finding others forgotten. All the while our brain bubbling and churning away in recollection and reminisces upon a hobby we spend our lives enjoying. I have already had my list turned upside down 3 times and working upon its 4th iteration and have no doubt it will have changes before the countdown even starts, let alone the changes once the count delivers other considerations I forgot or missed. Tis the season indeed!

Yeah, I have more than enough choices (and I'm sure I'll hit my head and say "why didn't I think of that?" once I see what everybody posts); I thought of about 6 or 7 right off the top of my head. Now the problem is ranking them - the only one I have for sure is my no. 1 pick, which I knew instantly.

See, I love 90's comics so there are dozens of team ups I came up with, heck I probably could have done an entire list of Batman Meets X, but I reined myself in. |

I'd considered this, but each of the 90's Batman team-ups I've read either 1)aren't very good, 2)favor Batman at the expense of the other character, or 3)favor the other character at the expense of Batman. I'm relatively sure I know one I recently reviewed that is going to make your list, but I felt it was too much a Batman story and not enough emphasis on the other character to really fit the spirit of this event. To each their own, of course. |
