Jim Aparo's best, in my opinion:  I think most are aware that I'm a big Aparo enthusiast, but the majority of his DC covers don't do much for me, since they are based on layouts dictated from the office, not from his own design sense. His covers for editor Joe Orlando in the early 70's, such as the run of Phantom Stranger covers issues 20-24 and 33-41, and Adventure Comics 431-440, with the Spectre, seem to have a lot more of Jim's vision in them, with the Dutch angles he favored, poses that better reflected his style, and far less blurbage than you'd get on the straight superhero stuff. |

Best Barry Smith Conan cover. Granted that is a great posed cover, but I will argue that Conan #16's cover: Night of the Frost Giant's Daughter is better IMO. While there is more "detail" in your choice, I believe Frost Giant's has more thought, design and style which helps it stand out stronger and more effectively in memory and mind. |
