Pate' de l'Spam "Bird things", with a side of mixed veggie aspic l'gelatine', and a Moon Pie for dessert... wash it all down with a tall cold 40 oz. bouncer of Colt 45... Now if that doesn't make you want to change your Thanksgiving dinner plans, maybe the pictures will.
Are you nauseous, yet?

Time for some Christmas Which Oneing! Which One is the start of the Christmas holiday for you? Is it putting up the decorations, lights, etc the weekend after Thanksgiving or when you watch your 1st Christmas Holiday special (which started Monday before Turkey day this year when CBS ran Rudolph) with family?
Growing up it was ALWAYS mom pulling out the decorations from the storage room on Saturday and we as a family spent Sunday after church putting out and hanging up all the assorted red, green, gold, white, blue holiday adornments. Once that was done it began to smell alot like Christmas!
And no, August when the stores put out their aisles of decorations is NOT an option, nor is Christmas in July promotions or when the local radio station begins 24 hour Christmas music the Monday before Thanksgiving. 4 weeks of winter holiday cheer is more than enough. Thank you retailers who gotta drain every ounce of $$ from the season.

As I mentioned before with Thanksgiving, I didn't grow up with holidays. But many years ago my father in law and I started (well he started it, I just enjoy it) a tradition of spicy bloody marys Christmas morning. So my Christmas start when I get to drink one with my breakfast and proceed to finish the pitcher of it throughout the day, as neither my father in law or mother in law drink much. It's a bit unconventional but it was nice that my in laws (both his first and second wife) have always made me comfortable at their holidays even though my childhood was very different than their kids.

With my family, Christmas begins on Black Friday. We take down all of the fall decor from the house and put up all of the Christmas stuff, including the tree. My olde4 daughter is finally allowed to play Christmas music in the house without ear buds in (as well as sing them), and the younger one sets up the little chalkboard with "X Days Until Christmas" on it, which she is responsible for maintaining. Lights go up outside weather permitting, although since it is not an elaborate display, we sometimes do it later in the weekend or even into the next week.

Well the putting up of the decorations, to the extent it happens, is usually a week or so before Christmas. And, frankly, that's more than enough Christmas for me. It happened a bit earlier when my boys were little. I don't even remember when that happened when I was a kid.

When we experienced a power outage many years ago, we took the kids to a certain chicken restaurant for dinner, right at the start of December. When we came out, it was snowing! So we decided that henceforth, the holiday season would begin when we went back to that restaurant to have dinner together.
The problem is that it's not very good. My wife suggested going somewhere else many times, but the kids (now grown up) would insist that "No! It's a tradition!"
I suspect that since a new tradition came up a few years later (that of having sushi with my mother for her birthday, on 23 December), and that we kept it up in her memory after her passing, my wife may convince the kids to forego the chicken thing and to stick to the sushi tradition only. The boys' taste for french fries, chicken nuggets and big sundaes has abated somewhat anyway.

Which One is your preferred animated Christmas song during the holiday? Is it Your a mean one Mr. Grinch or Snow Mizer Heat Mizer?
Both are fun little songs meant to deliver chuckles with a dark twisty smile. Perfect ear worm tunes that pop in you head when least expected. I like both. Grinch is just so perfectly sung by Tony the Tiger er, I mean Thurl Ravencroft.Maybe because it has less airplay and more cult following, I do prefer Snow Mizer Heat Mizer. The play upon sibling rivalry and hot summer days versus the freezing winter hits the sweet spot for me.

My favorite part of the film is where the Burgermeister Meisterburger pulls a "Farenheit 451" job on all the toys in the town-- Ray Bradbury warned us about this... nothing for the kids to do now except go home and wash their stockings and hang them by the fireplace to dry. hey... wait-a-minute...!

There is just no way to make a choice here. They are both amazing. If I was completely forced to choose I guess it would be Mr. Grinch, but the two neck-and-neck.

I was too old for that Heat Miser show, so I'll go for the Grinch song.
Now, had you included songs from "Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol," or even "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," which for some reason I did see when it first came out, it would have been a much tighter race.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town stands out as a singular classic show all of it's own much like Rudolph and the Grinch. Must watch every winter. Usually multiple times between turkey day and Christmas Eve. The Miser bro's is the best part of Year Without a Santa Claus which is a slightly lesser show in my opinion. Also really like the Little Drummer boy tune from it's show. It has a lot of airtime during the holiday here on our FM radio 24hr Christmas station.
