\ I liked Negation, it's basically a sci-fi version of the Great Escape, but it ties strongly into the whole Crossgen main story. It's the best thing Tony Bedard has ever written (damning with faint praise? Yep), it works pretty well with a large cast of diverse personalities. I liked Bedard's R.E.B.E.L.S. a lot more. Best in-universe ongoing that DC was producing at the time.

I never read any Cross Gen books. I was wondering which ones were the best. I liked Sojourn but it was Greg Land's art/tracing/whateva that initially caught my attention, then the storyline. I remember buying an almost complete run when they were reduced in price in of all places...Mile High Comics.

Has anyone read this? It certainly looks intriguing. I just filled in the last few issues I needed for the run, but other than the handful I read back in the 80's when it was coming out, I haven't read most of them yet. I did enjoy the handful I read enough to track down the series. -M

I enjoyed Crossgen, and was sad when they died.. Meridian was my favorite. Brath (their Conan clone) was also pretty good. The biggest lost, I think, was Abadazad, which was shaping up to be an awesomely weird classic in the vein of Bone, but only had two issues? one?
I was in a .25 bin today, and I found #1 re-issues (printed by Marvel) of the Ruse and Mystic.. I had no idea Marvel ever printed any Crossgen after they bought it... kinda neat.

Marvel did 3 4 issue minis of Cross Gen material, Ruse, Sigil and Mystic. Only Ruse by Mark Waid had any resemblance to what came before. The other 2 were reboots/reinventions of the material that had nothing to do with the previous Cross Gen material. None of it sold particularly well and Marvel cancelled the second wave of minis they had planned for the Cross Gen material-I think Route 666 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang were among those in consideration for the second wave, but not sure. I sampled some of the Cross Gen stuff in the Edge and Forge collections, and really liked that format, but i may have been the only one. I do pick up Cross Gen trades when I find them on the cheap at Half Price Books or Cons, and occasionally pick up individual issues of some series form quarter and fifty cent bins. El Cazador is probably my favorite of those I read. I had ignored Cross Gen when they launched, but took notice when George Perez signed with them, and I think Solus was the first book of theirs I purchased off the racks, but they started to fall apart soon afterwards. -M

Has anyone read this? It certainly looks intriguing. I really enjoyed the Further Adventures of Indiana Jones. The opening arc, written and draw by Byrne was a great start to the series. The writers created fun and lively stories and even brought in some canon to the books, like Dr. Katanga and Toht. Kerry Gammill drew quite a bit, as Chaykin did an arc or two. If they're cheap in the back issues, dive in and give it a shot. Dark Horse Comics' Indy comics are also worth getting as well. They're all better than Crystal Skull.

I was buying either Edge or Forge as well.. LOVED the format. The only reason I wasn't buying both is that I had the singles for the other and wanted to stick with them.
It's really too bad Marvel likes to buy these things then sit on them instead of trying to use them.

Then they bought Marvel too and tried using their new toy to see if they could make a go of one of the toys they already had, it didn't work. -M

Marvel's version of Ruse was even better than the original Crossgen version IMHO, as Waid now didn't have to place his story on one of the Crossgen non-Earths, but could place it in Great Britain like he always seemed to have wanted. I also loved Edge and Forge, excellent way to sample series. I also loved Crossgen's digests.
