Saga was interesting for awhile but I just stopped caring around #16. The problem I often have with newer series is that the writers are so adept at writing "real" characters with seemingly realistic "flaws" that I find myself growing to dislike them or at least find myself not caring. I realized that part of the reason I like fantasy, sci-fi and superheroes is the idealization aspect of characterization; Peter Parker is really an idealized geek, not one so nuanced that you learn to loath him. I care more about about an ostensibly two-dimensional character like Sam Gamgee than I ever would any character in Saga. I'm the opposite. I prefer characters like Walter White over Clark Kent. I haven't read Saga. The thing is though, I've had four friends recommend it to me at this point, and I don't have friends that read comics. These are people who never read comics checking Saga out at the library or buying it at the bookstore and telling me it's good. I don't think even Walking Dead gets that much action among people I know in real life. So I'm going to check it out. I do like characters with deep flaws; I was a big fan of Hugh Laurie's House. I also believe I understated my point. I tend to favor flawed characters with some great talent or something that makes them unique. What tends to annoy me are characters that seem to exist just to be an example of a specific kind of psychosis or cliche role in modern culture. The two lead characters in Saga, for all their quirks, became surprisingly bland to me. I couldn't find a reason to care about them. It could be that BKV wasn't very subtle about giving Alana the traditional temperament of an impulsive male while Marko seems to be a gestalt of the unoffensive, PC metrosexual. They simply started to grate on me. Still, I understand why people like it because I certainly liked aspects of it for a time.

One I really liked was Baker Street, collected as Honour Among Punks. It's Sherlock Holmes reimagined as a female punk rocker circa early 1980's.

Does anyone have word on what Davis has been up to since he left BPRD? He mentioned that he wanted to spend time developing a new Marquis series, but I haven't heard anything since.

Although I sold off my collection, there were a few more recent series I kept for future reading. This is one of them Is it any good? For me it was a flawed series, but definitely worth reading, I would say. Fairly dense, sometimes convoluted allegory, but the writer explains a lot of the more obscure bits in some of the background material. The symbolism is a bit heavy-handed and clunky at times. On the whole, I'd put it in the "interesting failure" category.

I'm considering getting the three issues of the early 90's Adam Strange mini. Yay, nay? They are $2 a pop at a local shop.

I quite liked that Adam Strange series and at that point the Kubert boys art more closely resembled their father's style than it does today. It's not groundbraking stuff or anything, but solid and enjoyable.

Looking at some scans online the artwork did seem to have more of Joe's styling than what I've become accustomed to with their work since the Wolverine (regular series), Ghost Rider, X-Men, Supes, etc. days (all of which I enjoyed). It looks more fluid, natural. Okay, I will definitely grab them tomorrow.

Not mindblowing like Diggle & Perry's Adamn Strange: Planet Heist, but a good introduction to the character. The Brothers Kubert did a good job with the artwork. Brunning's story was simple but worth a read.

Here, have some practice:

Neither myself nor dealer ever heard of Blacksad...in fact I'm pretty much in the dark about noir genres.
Must venture out of the Big 2 a bit more often...
