I realize we already have a thread for discussing classic films, but it occurred to me that it would be fun to have a club where we choose a theme for the month and each watch and comment on films surrounding that theme. Essentially, the club works as follows: 1. Each month, a theme is chosen (ex. "Sci-fi," "gangland/mafia," "film franchises of the 1980s") 2. Each participant maintains a post near the top of this thread where they list the films they have watched that fit this theme (much like we do for the Classic Comic Books Club) 3. We discuss the films we are watching in this thread 4. Whoever gets the most "into the spirit" by watching the most films that meet the theme's criteria gets to choose the next month's theme. 5. No person may choose the theme for two months in a row. If the person who chose the month's theme watches the most films for that month, the person with the second most films will choose the theme for the next month. 6. Whoever watches the most films in September must choose a horror related theme for October. It's a little late in the game to be starting, but October's theme is HORROR. Respond to this thread with a post where you will list all the horror films you've watched in October. After a day or so, I will delete all conversation occupying the first page of this thread so that everyone's reserved posts are clearly visible at the top of the thread. After that, all conversation will be kept. I think this will be a lot of fun, and I'm secretly hoping someone is going to choose Martial Arts this year because I've been meaning to get into Kung Fu films! ________________________________________________________________________________ THEMES BY MONTH: October: Horror
November: Noir
December: Space Travel, and Travelers from Space

October:
1. The Signal 2. Disaster L.A.: The Last Zombie Apocalypse Begins Here 3. The Forbidden Girl 4. Bloodwork 5. Godzilla (2014) 6. Pacific Rim 7. The Scribbler 8. Life After Beth 9. Dead Within 10. Deliver Us from Evil
Godzilla & Pacific Rim are borderline, of course, being also straight-up sf, but I included them because, heck, it's my list. Just as I didn't include Starship Troopers, which I also watched for the first time this month.

Has this one come out legitimately yet? It was one of the first "gray-market" VHSes I ever bought after I learned about their availability via the classifieds in the back of Fangoria a decade ago.

I haven't seen The Exorcist either, and I wonder if seeing it parodied so much will ruin it for me.

Nah, I had seen Repossessed with Leslie Nielson before seeing the original. If anything, seeing a few parodies just made my first viewing of the Exorcist all the better as I knew the beats but instead of getting a gag from them I got legitimate scares. Make it a must see.
