I still don't really understand how or why the Classics Board was jettisoned from CBR in the aftermath of the recent meltdown, but I remember getting the impression at the time that it was more a kind of side-effect of the general housecleaning imperative that took over the CBR administrators' mindset then than any special animus against it. I could almost see them thinking, "Oh, and we might as well get rid of that stupid Classics Board that no one ever looks at, while we're at it." But who knows. That's the way I saw it too. But it was a good jumping off point. I personally don't agree with what they did going nuclear, but even if I did, I don't see how anyone can agree to their new way of doing things over there. Yeah, I like having our own place here, to be honest - even though there are several good CBR friends that I miss. I can see most of them on facebook at the "Rita's" page - but I find the FB format isn't as conducive to back and forth conversation as the messageboard. FB seems to encourage briefer statements, that often end up sounding more like strident declarations from on high than efforts to engage anyone in a discussion.

I was thinking of extending an invitation to that Groo guy in the Classics board over there but then I got banned and decided not to go back.

I also didn't think it was anomisity, more that none of the decision makers had ever visited the Classics Board and had no idea what was happening there and therefore it was not important. Which, frankly, was more insulting.

I still post in CBR mainly in the TV/FILM forum and the few newer comics I follow, but those had been on the wane for a long time before the purge and haven't really picked back up since. The place feels like a shell of its former self and has for some time. I also really disliked the way they handled the purge, and I wish they had made more of an effort to preserve old content besides "You have two weeks to figure it out yourself." Granted, at least they did that. I was temporarily crestfallen at first before I realized they had the archives. The thought of so much great conversation and content being tossed out like old newspapers was crushing at first, but then I was able to save what I cared about.
Anyway, there is a much friendlier and livelier community here than there has been over there for some time. Aside from the few interests that don't quite carry over here and the odd thread that catches my eye, I spend far more time here when I have time to pop onto forums these days. I mean, where else can I find such lively and non-judgmental discussion on coffee and bananas?

More cynically, I wonder if it was the board most cut off from the front page and advertising, and was having the least impact on their click-traffic.

The latter scenario is the one I find most likely; I recall it being raised here right at the outset.
Capitalism is an ugly, ugly thing.

No, that's just some guy I think would like the ongoing review threads here. My screenname was the same on there. I don't remember you from there either. I mostly posted in the indy board, the classic board, and the community board.

I posted on the classic boards, but I wasn't on there long before they did the reboot and our beloved section disappeared. I am Cold Water on there as well.
