He hasn't dared introduce him to Look, I'll bet. The last issue of Look was in October 1971. Half the people on this board have no idea what you're talking about. As usual. It was six years before I was born. Is that magazine like an old person Highlights?

Imagine what it would have been like if they included a Classics forum in CBR immediately after the reboot and Shaxper didn't have to create this one. Dan B would have been banned at least a dozen times. The word "banana" would be permanently banned. Threads created would be moved into other directories haphazardly. Members banned from CBR roaming the wilds of the internet, homeless, hungry, confused and unloved. Young 'uns posting in the classic section asking if Thor could beat up Superman way back in 2008
Seriously, I shudder to think what could have been. I, for one have something to add to the list of things to be thankful for when I compile it this coming Turkey Day

Is that magazine like an old person Highlights? It & Life were pretty much interchangeable -- weekly newsmagazines in large format (sort of close to a comics Treasury Edition, memory tells me), heavy on the pix.

The word "banana" would be permanently banned. You say that as if it's a bad thing.

"Banana" backward is "ananab." Sounds sort of like a personal name from the New Testament to me.

Two things that would make this place better....more people I'm not so sure I want this place to get much bigger. If it does, so be it, but I think we have a good sized group here and plenty of conversation. Too much more might make it impersonal and would likely make it impossible for folks to stay current on all the discussion threads (there's so much activity here compared to the old place). We've done quite a bit of promoting outside of the site to bring new folks here, just to ensure that we get a new fresh face or two from time to time. Beyond that, if we wanted to increase our numbers significantly, it would likely require paid advertising. While CBR costs a significant amount of money to maintain and, thus, is chock filled with ads and promotional materials, the CCF is free and (that one proboards ad at the top aside) beholden to no advertisers. I've been thinking about this for a long while now. We have the DC one because that came from our merger with the Hall of Justice (and it's a damn fine one to boot!), and that does present a sort of imbalance, but creating a similar Marvel section presents two problems: 1. It might seem like its intended to complete with the HOJ or, worse, it might create rivalries 2. We'd need people as dedicated as the HOJers to staff it. Without vigilance, a section devoted to new comics and media (especially one brand over the other) could easily invite a lot of trolling without the right persistent guidance. And, then, what about non-Marvel, non-DC new comics? I don't see a good solution to this, but am definitely open to suggestions. Well said! Let me change my tune....keep it small and focused!

The other half are impressed by my sagacity & wit. As usual. A perfect example of why I personally am glad to find these forums. Almost snorted myself off my chair...which you may well have felt over there Mr In The Underworld. I still like some of the columns at CBR, but the forum is...lacking...in sagacity and wit. I mentioned this in another post a few minutes ago, despite being an infrequent poster I love the community here. In general people get on, and while I read a lot of modern books I would much rather talk about those from the 60's, 70's and 80's than those. Without close friends who share my obsession this is the next best thing, and considering the breadth of knowledge and interests its probably a better thing.

One of my few regrets about leaving CBR was that, inevitably, there would be folks like you left behind, unable to find us.

How did I find you?
Unenthusiastically trawling through a forum on CBR and saw the address in someones signature.
Uh huh me thoughted...thats where the buggers are hiding So I tracked you down
Actually I thought you must have all just got pissed off and gone off into the ether, I've seen books by John Severin and immediately think of Dan, and think of Jez every time I see an Archie cover. I really missed everyones triumphant discoveries and barely disguised jealousy at seeing some of them.
So I'm glad to be here, a nice home-away-from-home-at-home...

That's one of the reasons I still post occasionally at CBR. I have the URL for this place in my signature and location.

Genuinely delighted that you're here, pakehafulla. I'd lamented your absence a few months back.

That's one of the reasons I still post occasionally at CBR. I have the URL for this place in my signature and location. Thanks so much for doing that. I used to do that myself, but I had a falling out with several mods at CBR a few months back over an issue unrelated to the CCF, and now I just don't have the stomach for going back. I don't intend to get into details, but I was sincerely disappointed in their behavior.
