Not into much wrestling anymore, but I was a huge fan of WWF as a kid. My Dad took me and a few friends to the Cow Palace in 1987 to watch Randy "Macho Man" Savage vs. Andre the Giant. It was freaking epic man.
Also, R.I.P. to The Ultimate Warrior, my favorite wrestler. It's weird how life works sometimes. He was just inducted into the HOF and gave an incredible speech, and then another the night before he passed. It almost feels like he was destined to give one last shout out before checking out of the place.

Wrestling died with WCW. If they ever get all the old Nitro and Thunders on The Network, I'd consider getting it. They are adding Clash of Champions tomorrow. They are adding Nitro to the Network this year from what they claim. They have all the RAW's from 1993-1994 and more scattered through to 2011. Then from 2012-2013.

No weekly episodes yet, but they do have all the old WCW PPVs. That's tempting since I don't think I've seen many of the PPVs.

I'm totally ignorant about the world of wrestling but interested to learn some things about it. I have plenty of questions and when you can you could answer them. Again excuse my lack of knowledge 1-How many Federations exist and what are their differences 2-Is there a wrestler's union 3-Is wrestling officially a sport or entertainment 4-Do they do drug testing 5-What in your opinion is the greatest wrestling movie 6-Honestly now-are the results pre determined Thats all for now 1. The main one right now is WWE (formerly WWF)... they're #1 and no one else is close. The 2nd biggest one is Impact Wrestling (or TNA, Total Non-Stop Action).. but it's an EXTREMELY distant second. They are the only two national promotions. Ring of Honor (RoH) is almost national, and features alot more actual wrestling, and far less storyline. They're on TV through a syndication deal. There are (as there always have been) millions of indy feds, but those are the only ones you'll ever see on TV. 2. No. WWE wrestlers are technically contract employees, though they can't work for any other wrestling company.. it's a thing that is discussed often. Some of the small feds have contracts for guys, bit most are per appearance. TNA is the only other one that has any sort of restrictions.. they don't allow their guys to appear on other feds DVDs or internet shows (though they can appear at live events) 3. It's both. WWE called itself 'Sports Entertainment'. The wrestlers are never called wrestlers, but rather 'Superstars'. The results are scripted, but they is certainly alot of altheticism involved. Almost no one pretends it's realy anymore.. this is refer to as 'kayfabe' in the trade... when guys that are bad guys scare kids and stay in character all the time in public. There is one indy fed, called Chikara, that pretty much keeps Kayfabe...but they're a throwback on purpose. 4. WWE has had a pretty extensive drug testing policy since the Chris Benoit Murder Suicide. Guys get suspended all the time (though, to be honest, it's more often for recreational drugs than steroids). I'd say at this point it's no bigger of an issue than it is in the NFL. No idea about the little feds.. they probably don't do much. 5. Wrestling Movie? ahhh... Does Rocky count? 6. The results are 100% pre-determined. It's a TV show. If you see people discussing 'booking' that refers to who wins and loses, and how. That doesn't mean you know what happens until it does, just that it's scripted... that more honest than most reality TV (and, some would say, the NBA) That help?

I just recalled. The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke was an excellent movie. He was nominated for an Oscar if I'm correct. I remember another from the 70s or early 80s called Takedown. And there was another good one recently that involved high school wrestling though I forgot the name or who's in it. It was about a small town lawyer going broke who gets to be a legal guardian of an old guy strictly for the money the state will give him. The old guy's grandkid arrives and the lawyer takes him in as well. The lawyer coaches a high school wrestling team. Cmon you should know what I'm babbling about by now

I'm totally ignorant about the world of wrestling but interested to learn some things about it. I have plenty of questions and when you can you could answer them. Again excuse my lack of knowledge 1-How many Federations exist and what are their differences 2-Is there a wrestler's union 3-Is wrestling officially a sport or entertainment 4-Do they do drug testing 5-What in your opinion is the greatest wrestling movie 6-Honestly now-are the results pre determined Thats all for now Let me answer this the best I can ok. 1.) There is various indies currently in the USA . Too many to count from PWG to NWA to Evolve and Dragongate. But the big 3 Promotions in the USA right now are... WWE , which as we know is #1 right now. TNA ...which is a far away #2 . TNA is considered old WWE Attitude light. The company has a more PG-14 focus and has weirdly started mining WWE ideas too quick. ROH .... which is more geared towards the in ring product and sport aspect. Where as TNA and WWE are geared to entertainment. Ring of Honor basically is geared towards the sport and in ring matches. 2.) No there is no Union. There likely will never be a Union. Back in the late 1980's Jessie Ventura wanted to start one but McMahon stopped it quick. 3.) Its a mixture really. The WWE is geared more to entertainment. But if you walked into a Ring of Honor show you get the sense its more sports based. 4.) WWE does very strict drug testing now. Their Wellness Policy began after the Benoit incident. They have busted various wrestlers and gave them suspensions the past few years. But a joke is the wrestlers like Cena can afford the good shit and not get busted. So who knows really...Randy Orton was popped 2-3 years ago for a 2nd time and gave his final chance in the company. 5.) The Wrestler....which is considered the best wrestling movie ever made. Its worth watching and stars Mickey Rourke. 6.) The out come is already known backstage. WWE has started to make the refs and announcers not know the finish of matches so they can react surprised

My favourite little psycho AJ Lee is also a comic fan... Heard RVD owned a comic store (did it crash?) and former WWE Champ CM Punk wrote the foreword to Avengers vs X-Men. PS I catch Monday Night RAW as often as I can and we often carry the PPVs at our bar (BBQ night)... And Brock would make a great Moose in an Archie movie...

Hulk Hogan was on Toy Hunter recently. Sold Jordan a rare Hulk figure, which Taboo from Black Eyed Peas would end up buying. Cool stuff.

And I have no idea who Zack Ryder is, but he was also on Toy Hunter and bought probably one of the coolest toys ever.

My favourite little psycho AJ Lee is also a comic fan... ...and former WWE Champ CM Punk wrote the foreword to Avengers vs X-Men. All the more proof that AJ and Punk were really made for one another. The word is and has been for awhile that they are getting married in real life...lending more credence to it being possible that Punk's current hiatus is due to being in 'settle down' mode. I cannot say I've ever been the largest fan of Punk's character, but I do dig his having a comic book jones and how he has(had?) incorporated that into his entrance...IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME!! (BTW, until just seeing that video, I did not know that "Cult of Personality" was Punk's entrance theme during his Ring of Honor days. Honestly LOVE his/WWE's use of that song, an uber-fave of mine since forever...best entrance theme not done by Motorhead.)
...and some more awesomeness I'm linking to because it's a bit big.

I wish the WWE had the budget to incorporate a CGI Ben Grimm into their programs. I haven't watched wrestling since the old NWO days (1996-1998?) but given The Things experience as a pro-wrestler in the comics, it would be amusing if they had decent writers. (Granted only .01% of the audience would get the joke, but who cares about such diminishing returns?!)

I have the WWE Network, and had to watch Wrestlemania XXX live...However, i've really been lacking interest in Extreme Rules, and was just planning to watch it after they posted it in the archives...Well, I decided to read the spoilers, and wasn't really too bummed I missed it...I'll watch it eventually.....
