Looks interesting. I am cautiously excited for this.

So are the ten rings in the MCU not like in the comics? They are actual bracelets more so that go on each arm? 5 on one arm, and 5 on the other? We see someone with them uses them to break a table. Will Shang Chi acquire them at the end of the film? I am a little sad they aren't rings, but I guess they couldn't get around that being too hokey even for MCU standards.

I posted my thoughts over on my Master of Kung Fu thread, after the trailer was posted there. It's what I expected. I held a faint glimmer of hope that it would be at least a little James Bond-meets-Bruce Lee; but knew that it probably wouldn't and the trailer confirms it. It looks like it could be a really good HK-style action film; but, I've seen that stuff for 30 years, so it feels more generic to me. The training and rejection feels right out of Batman Begins, also, though that was hardly original then. For the MCU, it is something different, which is a welcome change.
I think it will do well and MCU fans will enjoy it, as well as action movie fans. HK fans have seen all of this before and their enjoyment depends on whether they constantly crave the same thing or are tired of it. I want to see this, to see how the story plays out; but, I would prefer that Shang Chi never interact with the rest of the MCU and we know that won't be the case, any more than the comic.
If only they had tried this when Brandon Lee was alive, with Martin Campbell as a director; I would have been in heaven.

They sold me on this 100% when I saw Razorfist in the trailer.
Only way they could make me more excited is if they were also utilizing The Cat and/or Zaran.

For real... although TBH, this has been going on a long time and most Asian Americans have just accepted the mispronunciation at this point. Chinese and Korean surnames like Chang, Jiang, Kang, Tang, etc. all get this treatment. Most folks I know with those last names don't even both correcting people.

Yeah I'm sure it gets tiring. When I studied Chinese for a bit a awhile ago, I felt like such a dimwit for having pronounced names like Chang or Zhong incorrectly lol.

It looks like every 70's Kung fu flick. I didn't see any fantastic elements that make it a Marvel movie. I think I'll pass.

It looks like fun, but of all the Marvel movies it looks like it's the furthest from its source material. More like a Jacky Chan film than a Shang-Chi one.
Chi doesn't come across as much of a philosopher in the trailer, but at least he looks like a good guy with a positive attitude. Plus his moves are better than Iron Fist's!

To be fair, though, an unconscious sloth would have better moves than Iron Fist. That was such a misfire in casting.

Honestly, I am fine with changes seen so far in adapting Shang Chi to a movie. It makes more sense having Mandarin be his father since it keeps everything comic book related. Besides, how well known is Fu Manchu to anyone other than us oldsters? I can also accept the Martial Arts style that will be seen is different. Since Chi was based on 70's Kung Fu movies it does make sense that for modern fans he move and fight with styles which reflect modern Hong Kong cinema.
Maybe after this big Showdown in defiance of Papa Mandarin we can get Shang into the Spy world for a 2nd movie. Along with Tarr, Reston and Leiko and Shen Kui the Cat and Rufus Midnight Carter on a mission.

The comics already changed it from Fu Manchu long ago, and the identity of his father in the comics has been fluid in the 21st century, the first change was the Yellow Claw after they lost the rights to the Rohmer estate IP, and I think it's changed a few times since then, so I had no expectation that Fu Manchu would figure in at all, since the Rohmer estate is one of the few things Papa Disney does not have its fingers in. But they've kept the core concept intact-son of a powerful possibly immortal Asian criminal warlord raised to be his weapon/heir who then refuses that role and rebels, and a sister who is at times rival and others confidante. That core concept seems to be front and center in every part of the teaser. The Moench run is a definitive run for the character to be sure, but it has not been the guiding run for the character in over 20 years of Marvel using the character, so I am pleasantly surprised that Marvel Studios is hearkening back to the core concept of the character and the spine of his major story arc if not in the minute details of the run. And I don't think the espionage trappings as they were in the early-mid-70s would work or resonate with audiences in the 21st century. Even the James Bond of the 21st century is very different of the James Bond of the 70s, so I am not sure how well that aspect of the 70s comics would translate into a 21st century film. As for him not being portrayed as philosophical enough, I wonder how one expects them to portray a "philosophical character" in a 2 minute teaser trailer that needs to also establish the core character concept to an audience who is largely unfamiliar with him, establish its place in the milieu of the MCU, and present enough oohs and ahhs to get people excited enough about it to overcome the malaise that exists around theatrical releases in the era of a pandemic? I would reserve that judgment until a longer sequence of the character's personality can be seen. -M

I mean, they had Foo Dogs, gravity defying water, glowing rings, and a lady in a straw hat moving like the wind. And Fin Fang Foom is supposed to be in the movie. Seems like it would fall under the category of fantastic elements to me.
