It could be BTAS done right - dont get me wrong it was a good and influential series for its time but lets face it: regular episodes are not very good, some exception aside, and the Phantasm movie. BTAS big thing was mood and style - not writing.

BTAS big thing was mood and style - not writing. Partially (dis)agree. I still believe BTAS is very, very good, but it does skirt over themes of governmental and police corruption. "On Leather Wings" hints at a greater antagonism between Batman and the powers-that-be which isn't really expounded upon in follow-up episodes. I also doubt the animation of Caped Crusader will equal the best of BTAS.

Checking it out now while feeding my newborn son and liking it so far. Very nostalgic BTAS vibe but clearly updated and doing it's own thing. Immediately recognize Diedrich Bader as Harvey Dent. Casting The Penguin as a woman was an interesting choice, and she is ruthless! Solid first episode hope this series is successful.

Watched the first 5 episodes today. Love the time period. So far I have enjoyed the slightly different versions of the classic villains. Sort of neat to see Batman without the high tech gadgets. DC still does quality animation.

Onomatopoeia. He was a Green Arrow villain at first in the comics.

The onomatopoeia episode was definitely one of the stand outs, I really enjoyed the Clayface episode as well.

Catman is my favourite villain of lesser renown. Is he in it?

Got a couple episodes left... really enjoying it. This is how Batman works, IMO. I love the call outs they work in, Jim Corrigan being one of the cops in Gotham, and of course all the Robins get to be little kids in the carnival episode it seems.

Watched the whole series - some of my (random) thoughts, a few days later! I guess... SPOILERS- The first episode I did not like that much. Also, Penguin-ess gets rid of her son way too fast; that seemed weird to me. I also felt that, despite being inspired by BTAS, it did not seem that much like BTAS. Batman is oddly visible when fighting and so on, there is hardly any emphasis on atmosphere—you know, white lenses in the dark with close-ups and so on. Then it got a lot better—or I started getting used to it! - Batman being more distant from Alfred is something I had always wanted to see in media since... forever! This harkens back (including the design) to when Alfred was a stockier guy called Beagle and more of a servant, not this nagging, one-liner cynical father figure he had become more and more after Miller changed Alfred from coming later into Bruce's life (when he already had Robin!) into the guy who was there even before he was born. People eat this interpretation up; I prefer the pre-Crisis take! But then again, here Alfred was already employed when the Waynes were killed, so they did not get rid of that. But we will see. - This continues the WEIRD take that the rich 1% Waynes are killed in some shabby alley that they apparently feel the need to walk through. For heaven's sake, Crime Alley is just a nickname and was supposed to be a wealthy district called Park Row that declined after the death of the Waynes into a cesspool of crime—hence, being called Crime Alley. You know. But now writers seem to think it is supposed to be some LITERAL ALLEY. It's annoying and nonsensical. - The Two-Face "arc" is a little too close to The Dark Knight for my taste, but then again, the character always had the problem that the interesting part is basically his origin story. You can add some nice variations there, but after that, as a villain, he doesn’t work as well and never really has a consistent motivation or psychology. Usually, it's something like, "Let's rob the 2nd National Bank on the 22nd of February," but why?... you know. - Harley being evil from the beginning was nice twist - c'mon, a Joker cliffhanger - WAY too predictable

I'm not really a Harley fan, (she was decent in the old animated series but I don't need DC to have a Deadpool) but she was amazing here.. my favorite of the villains for sure. I felt Penguin was so quick to kill her son because she already didn't trust him.. there was some implied back story there I though, but maybe I was just writing my own .
