The first trailer has dropped on the Kevin Smith-led Masters of the Universe continuation series at Netflix:
It looks great, but I wish we had gotten nothing but Bear McCreary score instead of Bonnie Tyler.

I don't know, " I need a hero" really does fit the ideal of He-Man. I've been a life long He-man fan and I'm so pumped for this.

I've seen a lot of people mentioning that they're not into it because it sounds too "woke" and I just don't get it. Yeah, He-Man is certainly the central character...but so much of the strength of both the original cartoon and the excellent 2000's reboot was the fact that they both really made great use of their extended casts. Not only were there whole episodes devoted to telling the origins of supporting cast members but also a large number of episodes tailored to showcase the individual strengths of the various supporting characters which showed why it was important for them to be around so that this particular iteration of He-Man is rumored to give a prominent role to Teela doesn't seem like a negative at all.

Gonna have to wait and see what Kevin Smith does story wise. I am hoping for the best and like you say, I have no problem with other characters having their moments. Just don't need or want Adam missing until the last episode.

Hey, Jim Steinman created the ultimate call for the hero and Bonnie belts it out like no one else. Still, it's just not the same without Alan Oppenheimer's nasal sneering (as Skeletor) and Lou Scheimer's annoying high pitched Orko (the same thing he did for bat-Mite, MO the robot {Space Sentinels} and others. Captain Marvel wants his gimmick back, though!

My brain is trying to process that I never connected Bat-Mite with Orko even though I grew up with both shows and it's so completely obvious now that you say that. I feel like Homer Simpson being shown clips of both, smiling and nodding at each, and then when asked if I notice anything similar with the voices, I shake my head no. New trailer looks interesting, will be curious to see how the series turns out, always loved the classic. Though my theory on He-Man is they ripped him off from the Mighty Mightor!

He-Man got sued by Conan IIRC
(The Barbarian not the comedian.)

VERY impressive animation but, honestly, is there anything about the core Masters of the Universe premise that is actually appealing beyond the toys and the general sci-fi-meets-sword-and-sorcery backdrop? Trying to create a hit television series on such a foundation seems uncertain at best. At least Netflix's previous efforts with Voltron and She-Ra were at least based upon series' with interesting ideas and some amount of characterization at their cores.

At least Netflix's previous efforts with Voltron and She-Ra were at least based upon series' with interesting ideas and some amount of characterization at their cores. It's nostalgia-driven; but, there were decent characters in there and a mythology supporting it. The original debuted when I was in high school; so, I wasn't the target audience. However, it was animation and I had seen the comic teaser in DC books; so, I sampled it. It was typical Filmation technique, with a gimmick swiped from Captain Marvel; but, the writing was good, the characters were interesting and it had good plots. Filmation, due to budgets, scrimped on the animation, with repeated shots, silhouettes and lots of talking heads (everyone else did degrees of the same); but, they usually went to town on the writing, which made up for the limited movement. They could have used better voice directing; but, they were better than other studios, aside from Warner and H-B. Story-wise, I think there is a lot to work with there, between Skeletor and the Sorceress' past, Teela being the daughter of the Sorceress, raised in secret, the Queen being an Earth astronaut who ends up on Eternia, Prince Adam becoming the champion He-Man, the henchmen....lot of building blocks for good stories, in the right hands.

I was really into the show when I was six. Apparently, there were some really solid ideas that went straight over my head. Thanks for this.

This one gives us a little more plot to go on:

I dunno. I like the character designs, particularly of the female characters, but this being a continuation of the Filmation series is a turn-off for me. I'd prefer a complete reimagining — especially one jettisoning the plethora of stupid names.

Still say they should have got Dolph to voice He-Man.

Still say they should have got Dolph to voice He-Man. I actually watched the live action movie not that long ago and while definitely not what I wanted out of a live action He-Man film it actually wasn't that bad a movie in and of itself.
