I said yes, though it's not technically accurate, but it was the closest choice. I bag everything, but I don't use boards at all (unless it was a back issue purchase that came with one). But I don't bag them individually. I get Silver Age size bags and put 3-4 comics per bag, depending what fits comfortably. Seems a reasonable compromise to me.

It all depends on how they arrive when I order them. If they're bagged and boarded they stay that way if not they they don't. I'm a reader so condition is not a huge factor for me. That being said I still try to take care of my books especially the ones I want to re-read at some point or the 1,000s I still haven't read yet.

I've got a few floppies again, so I need bags. Normally, I'd just get Ultra Pro, because that's what I used to use, but I see mylar mentioned a lot. Considering the significant price difference (100/$4 vs 50/$20), I'm curious what makes mylar superior.

Considering the significant price difference (100/$4 vs 50/$20), I'm curious what makes mylar superior. Mylar is far more durable, sturdier and lasts much longer than a regular Ultra Pro. If a book is valuable, or at least valuable to me...I put it in the better bag. Ultra Pro and other similar polypropylene bags are still good enough for everything else. Which is why I still use them for the majority of my new books which aren't pricey variants or expensive #1s. So my regular Amazing Spider-Man books (current series) go in regular bags. But the 1:50 variants get the royal treatment.

Thanks. I'll probably grab the mylar now, since I plan to go the same route as DE Sinclair and put a few per bag and only have 44.

I bag and board because I am one of the clumsiest people in all of ever, and if I didn't bag and board, bad things would probably happen to my books. I have children and dogs. They get into everything (well, the dogs do). Plus, I have books that were never bagged and boarded that I bought at a store, from a 25 cent box, and they smelled like HELL. I had to sit them in front of an air purifier/ionizer/thing to get the stench off of them (they smelled musty).

What's really begun to bug me about bagging and boarding is that, while it's more convenient to order your bags, boards, and boxes from one store or one supplier, there's no one company that does all three supplies to my satisfaction.
Example: BCW is the only company that sells the kind of short boxes I want. They hold 150 comics as opposed to 100, which makes quite a difference, and as the majority of my boxes came from BCW, I hate when I need a box NOW and buy one from an LCS that looks compatible but proves to be too small and, thus, is both impractical and looks ridiculous next to a wall of longer short boxes.
At the same time, BCW sells the worst backing boards ever. Flimsy, always somewhat bent towards the middle, and often rough/uneven along the edges.
Meanwhile, Ultra Pro has good quality bags and boards, but their modern age ones always fit a little too snug. Some of my indy comics that run a few pages longer or have a thicker cover don't fit, and the OCD portion of my brain cannot stand using a silver age bag and board for one comic in an otherwise modern age run. Some dealers I know that use Ultra Pro just use the Silver Age bags and boards for everything, but then they flop around with too much room, and that isn't good for them either.
So I haven't found a perfect bag and board, and buying my boxes from BCW is inconvenient with both a high shipping fee and an absolute hatred for their other supplies.

The obvious answer is to open your own comic shop and have accounts with both so you can fulfill your personal collecting needs at the greatest possible convenience to yourself Never mind you will never be able to afford to buy another comic book for yourself or even comfortably make ends meet again -M

I got an odd shaped box once and nearly quit reading comics all together. Luckily, I came to my senses and just switched to trades and got rid of all my floppies.

I bag and board everything because I like to keep all my stuff in good condition. And a NM comic may mean the difference between selling or not selling a book at all, never mind value.
