Archie leaned heavy in to the monster craze for longer than I thought.

I'll continue buying the books I've been enjoying:
Amazing Adult Fantasy #10 - Ditko Fantastic Four #3 - Kirby Tales to Astonish #29 - Kirby, Ditko & Ayers
Then I have to pick up Space Adventures #44 for the debut of Mercury Man - one of the most obscure superheroes of the Silver Age. And no wonder - he was the last survivor of an alien race who comes to Earth and uses his advanced abilities to help humanity. Who'd believe a silly premise like that?
Last, I'll indulge my interest in medieval history with Four Color #1259 - El Cid.
That adds up to 61 cents but I had 9 cents left over from a previous month.

Today, the comic in this bunch I'd most like to have is: That one definitely caught my eye. I don't think I've ever noticed it before.

1961 me ( a few months before I got my first comics) would have been the usual sucker for dinosaurs, so I would probably have picked Star Spangled War Stories #101 and Turok, Son of Stone #27.
But I would also have noticed Superman, whom I knew from TV, so Action Comics #28, with a Supergirl, too, would have made the cut.
Only 21 cents left. Hmmm.
Okay, since I was a sucker for army men, too, G.I. Combat #92 looks pretty bloody, so yeah.
Nine cents left. Damn. Do I put back the Turok so I can get a fifth 12-center? Let's look again.
Oh, yeah. Another dinosaur, and fro three cents less: Brave and the Bold 40 with Cave carson.
Sorry, Turok.

Here are my choices: Adventure Comics #294 (Legion of Super-Heroes!) Flash #127 (Gorilla Grodd!) Green Lantern #11 Justice League of America #10 Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #59 (I just couldn't pass up that awesome cover!)
These ones I was sorely tempted to get, but ran out of money. Cheapskate dad! Mystery in Space #74 Showcase #37 (Metal Men) Strange Adventures #138 (dinosaur on the cover!)

Adventures of Little Archie #22 (blowing more than half the budget; the listing says 25 cents, but the cover has 35 printed) Batman #146 Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #59
Grown-up me would be an almost all-Dell month:
87th Precinct #1309 (Krigstein) Archie's Madhouse #18 Around the Block with Dunc & Loo #3 Yak Yak #1348

Looks like no issue of Mad, #69 having come out the last week of December. So... Four Color 1311: I've always been a nut for Bullwiggle and friends. Four Color 1348: Can't pass up that Jack Davis cover on Yak Yak And this is where it depends on how old I am. Younger me would probably pick up JLA #10 and possibly Green Lantern #11. Older me would save the money for a SF digest or a paperback. As MDG points out that Little Archie is tempting. As is Madhouse and Jughead. Archie was bringing the SF and monsters.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, my grandmother bought what I think was the first comic I ever read, Rocky and His Fiendish Friends #1, which came out in June 1962, when I had just turned eight. Given that the reason I would have asked her to buy that for me was that I loved the Rocky and Bullwinkle show, I'm thinking that I would have picked up...
Rocky and his Friends, (aka Four Color 1311), even though it was a 15-center.
Those are prehistoric creatures menacing Rip Hunter, so, yeah, I'd be in on that. We're up to 27 cents now.
The monster on My Greatest Adventure looks enough like a dinosaur to make that a possibilty, too. Dang, only 21 cents left.
Just one comic more.
Okay, I was also into cowboys and frontier stuff, so maybe I'd skip Our Army at War, and give Tomahawk a shot.
Nine cents left. Do I reconsider buying that 15-cent Rocky, or bank the nine cents till next month? I have to tell you, I'm tempted to go with that Metal Men appearance in Showcase.
Shoot, my mother's calling. Have to get going. We're walking back home after going to the Shop-Rite.
I'll stick with what I've got and save the nine cents.
Ah, the dilemmas of a strict budget...

That issue of Showcase with the Metal Men was very tempting.
But AAF and Bizarros and Grodd and nurse comics! It’s too hard to decide sometimes.

1962, year of my birth! Saved 10cents from my last allowance so I have 70 cents burning a hole in my pocket and itchy hands wanting to spend some coins! So I can splurge this week on 5 12cent comics=60 cents and 1 extra 10 cent issue (thank you Charlton cheapie) as well.
All American Men of War #90 Flash #127 Justice League of America #10 Archie's Madhouse #18 Funsmoke Western #69
Space War #15=10 cents.
So a good day for taking home some War, Westerns, Science Fiction, Humor and Super Heroic adventures. It's good to be a kid some days.
