Gee, you're generous dad, 14 years later when I was getting allowance from my folks, I was only getting a quarter a week, if it was a week they decided I could get allowance. But assuming my interests are the same as when I was of an age to get allowance, these would be my choices... Star Spangled War Stories #99 (dinosaurs + army men, yes please) Strange Adventures #133 (same as above) Phantom Planet #1234 (astronauts and other planets, give me some) Ellery Queen Detective #1234 (detectives, but not quite the Hardy Boys, plus that cover, ok let me check it out) so 2 10 centers and 2 1 centers and I'm tapped out. -M A quarter a week would make this game too hard!

Tough choices, but given the 50-cent limit, I gotta go with
Fantastic Four #1 Justice League of America #7 Popeye #61 Quick Draw McGraw #8 Huckleberry Hound #14

Fantastic Four #1 Strange Tales #90 Tales to Astonish #25 Amazing Adventures #6 Kid Colt Outlaw #101
This Marvel company might be on to something. I'm kind of a maniac for Marvel. I should write them a letter and tell them that.

Hmmm...since that's 14 years before I was born, I'll assume I'm of 'go to the store and get the change' age.. so like 8-10? Defintely 3 or 4 packs of baseball cards (which in 1961 were 5 cents for 5 cards). Assuming I wasn't invested in any titles and going by cover appeal, 8 year old me would take Konga #3 JLA #7 Daffy Duck #27 ... so 3 packs of cards Clearly, different choice if you're talking 'what do you wish you had now'

Famous Monsters of Filmland #14 (.35) ) I seriously considered adding Famous Monsters of Filmland, but that would have forced a budget / desirability decision with the three I picked.

The me of today would have made very different choices than I listed, but the me of allowance age, who loved dinosaurs, army men, anything space and Hardy Boys detectives would have made choices like the one I listed. -M

for sure! I was a huge Bugs Bunny fan as a kid, and I played Sax, so no way I'd pass up that Daffy Duck Cover. I also like variety, so a bit of everything would definitely be the order of the day. I could either have swapped Konga for either Forbidden Worlds or Brave and the Bold for those dinosaur covers, but the Konga is one my dad would probably have liked too, so that would get the win I think. I've always loved that JLA cover, so I can't imagine passing that one up either.

It's a little hard to say because 8 year old me would buy differently from 12-year old me from 16 year old me.
I do think that FF #1 would be very likely across the board though. And any point beyond about 10 I'd be looking hard at SF digests if the comics weren't exciting me.

I was going with 8-10 year old me. 16 year old me would have been looking for Sci fi or Mad (depending on the contents)...but the comics would be just as tempting as prose, so I'd probably flip through and see what struck me. 16 year old me could potential buy something like Life or National Geographic too, depending on the cover. Also would depend how many baseball cards I needed from the series at the time and how much longer I thought they'd be in the store, since as a kid I would have found that most important.

Tough call without being able to browse the nterior pages of these comics! But after a quick glance at some of the credits, i'd go with:
Fantastic Four #1 - no explanation necessary Amazing Adult Fantasy #7 - whattaya mean, not that kind of adult fantasy? oh well, it's all Ditko stories so I'll get it anyway; G.I. Combat #90 - includes a 13-page Russ Heath story Journey into Mystery #73 - Kirby, Ditko, and Don Heck stories MAD #66 - if this counts, not appearing on Mik's page; if it isn't eligible, I'll probably go with another Marvel anthology with Kirby, etc stories, or another war comic with Russ Heath art

So I went with 6-9 me as those were the only years I did get allowance. -M
