I haven't watched Babylon 5 yet, but even Straczynaski has backed off on claiming DS9 was a copy of the series. Well, JMS decided 20ish years ago that pursuing a never-ending active feud with Paramount wouldn't ultimately be productive, but that doesn't change what happened. But now you've got me googling it and it looks like JMS raised the isssue again as recently as last year -- www.tor.com/blogs/2013/02/is-this-the-smoking-gun-proving-deep-space-nine-ripped-off-babylon-5Did the focus of both series shift a bit from their repsective origins? Sure. But what happened happened and it is what it is and what it was. Ronald Moore eventually did some good stuff with Deep Space Nine. And DS9 may have had better acting and a higher budget. But the Babylon 5 storytelling is ultimately superior and definitely worth watching for any SF fan.

@midnight had their 100th episode tonight. I can't believe it's been on that long already.
The pilot for Tyrant on FX was kind of interesting.

I have Tyrant on my DVR. The premise sounds interesting.

Season 3 of Longmire is off to a good start. What reccommends this show? New season of Sullivan & Son! I had never even heard of this one and had to look it up. I haven't thought of turning on TBS for years or decades. Vince Vaughn is a class act, though; so I could see this being good.

Yeah: there's a reason those 3 had won so many times...

The Legend of Korra season 3 premiere was pretty good. I have Tyrant on my DVR. The premise sounds interesting. The premise is interesting but the first time I watched it I was a bit bored. I didn't find any of the characters engaging. The second time I watched it I enjoyed it though. I had never even heard of this one and had to look it up. I haven't thought of turning on TBS for years or decades. Vince Vaughn is a class act, though; so I could see this being good. It's not bad. I mostly watch it because it's set in my hometown. Final season of Wilfred off to an intriguing start on FXX. Yeah great start to the season.

It's like with old comics: if I have a TV series on DVD, I watch it again from time to time. I'm currently at the midpoint of the second season of Battlestar Galactica, and that show hasn't taken a single grey hair. The Pegasus episode is absolutely brilliant, with an amazingly efficient buildup of tension preceding the climactic "to be continued" line!
I still think the series' finale revelations don't make one iota of sense but until then it's a very fine show; well worth watching again.

Battlestar had a perfect ending; despite the objections of both Biblical and Darwinian fundamentalists.
A new SF show premieres on CBS tonight-- "Extant" stars Halle Berry as an astronaut who returns from space pregnant! Produced by Spielberg.

A new SF show premieres on CBS tonight-- "Extant" stars Halle Berry as an astronaut who returns from space pregnant! Produced by Spielberg. Surely you've been misinformed, Jasoomian! Battlestar's ending made no sense. Not in the sense of "I didn't like it" (which I didn't, but that's a different thing); not because it resorted to magic to explain away the corner into which the writers had painted themselves; but because no motivation was given for precipitating the events of the overall story. God did it? Fine, fine, God did it. The reason now is why? The Judaeo-Christian God had a reason to blow up Sodom, to drown the world in a flood or to have every firstborn in Egypt die. Whether one believes in these stories or not is irrelevant: they were internally consistent. Not so for the ending of Battlestar. No reason was given for why God first ordered the Cylons to nearly annihilate humanity and then help it start over, just so they could repeat exactly the same mistakes as before. No reason was given for why Cylon-human hybrids were so important that they necessitate miracles to preserve them (especially since the parent species are so anatomically and genetically identical that even a doctor can't tell the two apart). No explanation was given for why God's "angels" could be surprised by plot developments. No explanation was given for Kara's sacrifice and resurrection, and she certainly did not lead humanity to its end as she was supposed to. No explanation was given regarding the presence of Cylons (not mere robots, but actual Cylons) on the burned-out thirteenth colony called Earth. The conclusion didn't conclude anything! It just gave us an exciting climax and then half an hour of hand-waving, because we were due for a happy ending. And yeah, it's true: I can see why science-literate viewers would object to a separate species that has the same DNA as humanity. But in a story where miracles are used to explain what's going on, that's not really a plot hole. Just lazy plotting.

Yes, first time in full. I've seen all the movies and various episodes here and there, but this is the first time I am sitting down and watching the whole thing in order. So far, it's been really enjoyable overall.
