I've never even heard of WGN but I thought Manhattan was pretty good. The premise is interesting and it's an excellent period piece. Daniel Stern plays one of the main characters.

WGN is the old Tribune-owned Chicago Superstation, channel 9. Its national cable feed has slowly morphed into its own network, WGN America. "Manhattan" is only their second orignal program. "Salem" just finished its first season to mixed reviews. (Plot: the real witches in 17th-century Salem framed some innocent non-witches.)
I had decided to give "Manhattan" a pass because it can't possibly be as good as Hickman's THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS, but maybe I'll reconsider.

Just started season 1.5 of Caprica. it has the same storytelling qualities as BSG, but is at the same time completely different... much less involved in action and more in the exploration of what it means to be human. It's a great commentary on today's increasing popularity of online activities and virtual reality. The pilot wasn't just a fluke, the series retains its quality... great world-building, the type that I love in SF stories.
Pity there was only one season!

The new preview for NBC's Constantine looks like it might be a solid monster of the week show similar to Sleepy Hollow or Grimm.

I've caught up on Crossbones this week and rather enjoyed it. Not much high-seas pirate action so far. It's more of an espionage show, actually. And about scratching out a new society. It is very plot-dense. Not a slow-moving show. The last one I saw even had a flashback to when Malkovich's "Blackbeard" had a black beard. NBC is burning off the final two episodes tonight (a Saturday), which doesn't seem to be a good omen for a season two. Although it looks like Blackbeard is indeed sailing the high seas in tonight's finale.
Last week I requested the public library stock the DVDs of DaVinci's Demons season 1, and lo and behold I check the website today and they have it on order. So that should be fun when it arrives.
I'm looking forward next week to the premieres of Quick Draw on Hulu and Black Jesus on Adult Swim.

Well, I did check out the pilot for Manhattan on hulu and decided to stick with it. PRetty good show so far after just two episodes. I noticed that both episodes on ran about 55 minutes long. Are they running that long on WGN television also? Most basic cable shows run about 42 minutes these days without commercials.
Black Jesus' debut was great, and the season premiere of Quick Draw on Hulu.com was funny as well. If you haven't seen the latter, it's a comedy about a sheriff who arrives in 1875 Kansas straight from receiving his criminology degree at Harvard (which he never fails to mention). The episode is plotted out in advance, but the dialogue is all improvised, much like Curb Your Enthusiasm. Worth checking out if you haven't.

The series premiere of Black Jesus was hysterical. Manhattan continues to be solid.
Partners on FX starring Martin Lawrence and Kelsey Grammer is pretty funny and they have great chemistry together. Although the pilot was less funny than the following episodes.
Clive Owen was good in the series premiere of The Knick on Cinemax and the premise is interesting. The special effects makeups during the surgery scenes are pretty gory. It's also an excellent period piece.

*Series* finale of Wilfred, unfortunately. I still haven't gotten around to watching the second season of the original Australian series, so I guess I'll still have that to look forward to.

Season 4 of Franklin & Bash premieres tomorrow night on TNT! Garfunkel and Oates is cracking me up! I enjoyed the 20 minute preview but haven't watched the entire first episode yet. Also, looking forward to the season finale of Wilfred. It's looking like it might be a pretty heart wrenching finale. *Series* finale of Wilfred, unfortunately. I still haven't gotten around to watching the second season of the original Australian series, so I guess I'll still have that to look forward to. I hadn't even realized there was a second season.
