Supergirl's fans were really leaning into the thigh-high boots...

I'd say more like Snakewoman.
It might not make any sense for a character called Catwoman but I think it looks pretty good - was it based on the 60s tv show version or vica versa?

The TV show came first in '66 with that mask look: The green comic book costume came in late '67 now influenced by this mask style: Filmation also started using a similar variation in green (left) in '68:

We all know them...the costume designs that make you go "hmmm." A thread to celebrate the gaudy, the weird, the infamous, and the just plain wrong. I'll start with a Legion classic...Cosmic Boy's 70's "corset" outfit: I enjoyed the updated Legion costumes; it was not enough just to change hairstyles, but some really needed modernizing from those often simple Silver Age designs. That, and the series was set in the far future, where conventional costumes (read: the overused bodysuit) would no longer be in vogue.

The Catwoman one was an attempt to try to replicate the effect of the stretch lame they used on the tv series; but, it didn't really translate to the page. The green color was mostly a compromise because of how black costumes looked wit the cheap comic book printing. I didn't mind the design, in the hands of a good artist, like Carmine Infantino. However, I still prefer the revised Golden Age costume they used for her, in the Bronze Age. They went back to tradition, but updated the mas a bit, as well as the boots and basic lines of the suit. I liked the Perez Wonder Man design, for the basic shapes; but, hated the color scheme. Grell said he just decided to remove the pink cloth and have pink skin as a replacement. I never questioned it, as a kid, as he was wearing it when I first saw the comic. I always thought it looked kind of cool, because it was different. It was only when I was older that I thought it was odd looking and even later before I realized that the reason it looked odd was because I realized it looked like a corset. Thing is, it wasn't the only man-corset in comics, if you look around, a bit. Cockrum's Legion costumes were very much "of their time," as they reflect the kinds of things you saw in fashion and clubs, in movies and such, and it was different than the normal, in comics. It dated pretty fast; but, they were far more interesting than most of the Silver Age designs and a good portion of what followed, in later designs. The only Legion revamp, from a later time, I really liked, for the costume designs was the Legionaires thing, with the Chris Spouse designs, where it was sort of a team uniform, but with individualized elements. The Supergirl thigh boots are a reflection of the time, as that was a popular trend in fashion and readers were imitating what they saw in magazines. I always liked the red hot pants and puffy blue blouse look; but, there again, that was in my formative years. I still thought it looked better than her 80s dance look...

I liked Tom Lyle's work; but I sometimes wondered if he got costume ideas from ski catalogs.... For the most part, I liked The Comet one, as it worked well and didn't make him look so much like Cyclops, even though he predated that look, as he did in the Red Circle revival (once Buckler ditched the 60s Camp costume, with the rainbow hard hat). It looked good in flight and fit someone who should be streaking through the sky. The Strike costume is okay, but rather generic, which never helped the character. The color scheme worked better for the Sgt Strike character, who was a super soldier, from WW2. The Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider look, with the hoodie, just makes me think he is getting ready for the Slalom, at Lake Placid. The Starman one was just so wrong in everything, from the asymmetric look to the yellow and purple color scheme. The black & red revamp wasn't much of an improvement. I would have preferred the red & green original, fin and all (which we got when Will ran into David Knight, though he was just "Starman's son," in the story). Jack Knight was cool looking and the only hero of the 90s with a real justification for wearing a leather jacket. Well, aside from the Rocketeer.

Speaking of Catwoman, let's not forget this brief incarnation: I actually like that one--although the black version may be even better. It's striking; it definitely conveys 'cat'; the cat head is slightly unnerving; and you can change identities just by the ditching the mask. (The collar on the dress is slightly exaggerated, but the cape was an actual fashion accessory of the time.)

The Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider look, with the hoodie, just makes me think he is getting ready for the Slalom, at Lake Placid. IIRC, Reilly had no job and little money when he made that suit, so it's appropriate it's more utilitarian than the average superhero costume.
