I know I shouldn't complain because I got some comics I need for my Detective Comics collection but I am a little sad that I've already read most of the stories in these issues.
I have the Silver Age Classics version of Detective Comics #327 (from about 1990, I think) and it reprints both the Batman story and the Elongated Man story.
Detective Comics #352 is an upgrade for my old copy, from which the centerfold was missing. (So there's four pages I've never seen before! All ads, I think. Letters, maybe? DC Currents.)
The first Talia story (in #411) was reprinted in the TPB collection that has all the early Ras al Ghul appearances. And the Batgirl story I must have read in the Batgirl Showcase volume.
But I've never read either of the stories in Detective #307. That Batman story looks notably dumb.

I didn't expect THAT! I bid on some issues of Detective Comics in the G to VG range. And I got this for less than $20! I got these two for reasonable prices: And then there's this, Detective #411, the first appearance of Talia. I've known for a while I wouldn't be getting this one cheap so I put a high bid and it went all the way to my high bid ($50) ... but I got it! I can't believe I got Detective #327 for under $20! These all came today! So fast! I can hardly believe it! And they are all complete books with no coupons missing, no loose centerfolds, no rips along the spines, nobody's name written all over them and no genitals drawn all over the place. Some of them are a bit worn, with a few bent pages, but it's what you'd expect for books in G to VG range. I ... probably paid a bit too much for Detective Comics #411 ($50), but not extravagantly so. A solid Detective #327 for less than $20 (I think it was $18.53) is a STEAL! I can hardly believe I got this so cheap. This is just a little more than what I paid for a beat-up #329 with a spine roll. And I think I love my replacement #352! It's in the VG/F range ... and the centerfold is intact! It's a pin-up! This iconic pose: I can see why it's missing from my old copy! Sheesh! I'm tempted to pull it out of the nice #352 I just got! The #307 is also a very solid VG+. I can hardly wait until I get a chance to look at them a little more closely!

I've just acquired a box of old comics from the seventies, mostly old Marvel UK stuff, but in amongst it was a copy of Charlton's Baron Weirwulf's Haunted Library. The lead story is a wonderful little gem by Joe Gill called The Devil is in Town, which is basically about Satan trying to corrupt a peaceful little town. It's hilarious. Bank clerk Peter iscorrupted by an evil urge to steal money. Teenagers Billy and Johnny are driven by an urge to vandalize. And Peter's fiancee Anne gets...a dreadful urge to put on lipstick, turn the lights down and have a little fun with her boyfriend instead of watching TV! This shocks and horrifies Peter, who shys away like a startled horse despite having been inflamed to the point of declaring that "I can't wait until we're married" slightly earlier, and leaves Anne weeping with shame after she regains control of her raging hormones. I just love the fact that in Gill's eyes, a girl wanting to have a bit of a fumble with the man she's engaged to was on a level with pocketing forty thousand dollars from the bank or chucking a brick through someone's window...

Hoosier X Alpha the Experimental Man ... what's an odd character he really is and this is the first time I seen it. I read it last night and it's actually pretty interesting, a bit of a change of pace from the usual science fiction type stories that were appearing in Detective every so often. Alpha is an android, and his powers are developing gradually, like an infant's. He's learning about emotions. (They teach him about humor by showing a comedy movie and the screen shows Jerry Lewis's face. Alpha is baffled about why the French love him so much and even Batman can't explain it, thus causing Alpha to go haywire. Not really. I guess they chose Jerry Lewis because DC was publishing the Adventures of Jerry Lewis. (Or maybe because Bob Hope's early 1960s movies are HORRIBLE!)) I actually liked it a lot. I'll probably discuss it in more detail on the batman fan thread after I read the J'onn J'onnz story.

Also, I don't know why, but I just love seeing Batwoman on the cover of a comic. It's so Batman Family-ish.

Batwoman is awesome. In Detective #307, Alpha is very confused by his feelings for her.

A few years back, I optimistically purchased a copy of Absolute Planetary vol 2, thinking surely I'd be able to pick up a vol 1 somewhere. Alas, it wasn't to be so, as it was out of print and harder to find than rockinghorse poop.
However, I just now won an eBay auction for the prized item; still in its original wrapping, no less! Finally, my quest is complete!

Scored a full run of the Marvel Secret Wars series. I had a smattering of issues but now I have them all so I can finally read the storyline.

Thanks to Half-Price Books having their annual week of spring coupons, I was able to pick up the books below last week, which are my first classic comic purchases of the year. This puts me within 7 books of having Fantastic Four from 100+, and I just like picking up random issues of ASM when I can.

I bid on some Detective Comics on eBay this weekend and so far I've won Detective Comics #299, #414 and #417. This looks wonderfully awful. WATCH OUT, BATMAN! THE LIGHTHOUSE OF DEATH! Looks like Batman really messed up this time! I got a few more bids on other issues of Detective in an auction that ends tomorrow.

So I won Detective Comics #392 for less than $4: FUNNY BOOKS ARE AWESOME! And #396 listed as Fine that I got for $14: This is the one where Batman learns that no good deed goes unpunished. And also to stay away from motorcycle hippies.)
