There used to be a small, but well-stocked comic shop a few blocks from where I currently live, but, very shortly after I moved here, the owner closed the store(after 30 years in business), needing to look after her health, as well as that of a relative. That left one other 'combo' comic and sports memorabilia shop,a mile or so from here, which I visited once. Vastly bigger than the other shop, but terrible customer service(the owner barely acknowledged me, as he was having a conversation with some 'regulars' about...whatever...). The place occupied upstairs and downstairs space, but after I visited, they moved everything into the downstairs to let another business move in up above. I signed up for social media notices, only to find the store seems to want to do 'fantasy card-gaming', with the store reserved for regular 'tournaments' of some elf-and-dragon 'magical quest' crap. So, the nearest comic shop that actually is interested in comics is like 10 mile away. Support your local mythological kingdom. It may be the closest thing you'll have to a comic shop.

That seems to be the standard for LCs- the area to play those card games. How much is a pack these days? They might be more profitable than comics for the store owner.

That seems to be the standard for LCs- the area to play those card games. How much is a pack these days? They might be more profitable than comics for the store owner. Pack sales are usually good, especially since many regulars buy boxes of packs for prerelease tournaments, but it is in purchases of single cards where shops can really make their money. If they open up a box of packs, they will likely get 3 to 4 rares that will sell in double digit dollar amounts that more than pay for the price of the whole box when sold and then every other card sold as a single is pure profit, even if some sell for only a quarter each. Add to that, entry fees those customers pay to participate in tournaments, promotional materials that stores get from the companies who produce the cards, etc. etc. and that gaming section in the store generates more revenue per square foot than the rest of the store combined in many places, and probably generate 60-70% of the foot traffic into the store as well. Add to that the sale of accessories like playmats, counters, etc. and the sale of soda and snacks those customers consume while playing, and the store makes far more money on that they they ever could on comics, where essentially on new comics you have to sell 4 out of every 5 copies ordered to get above a break even point when all other operating expenses for carrying comics are taken into consideration. -M

Although this is a 1:100 variant (ie one copy allowed for every 100 copies ordered) of the newest Amazing Spidey series, the cover was done by John Romita Sr...my favourite - and definitive Spidey artist of all time. It gives this variant a really 'classic' look.
Gorgeous Book ... I have not seen this! Thanks for posting it.

Not a purchase, but when I was visiting my cousin this weekend, her husband mentioned that his brother had given him a box of their old comics that he didn't know what to do with. So.... Haven't really gone through them all yet, but a pretty good mix from 66-73 or so. Biggest single chunk are Archies, but also DC, Marvel, Charlton, Dell Gold Key, Whitman--even Spire.

Wow TM , you scored many a Batman Damned book. It reminds me of when I reserved 6 black bag Superman #75’s. I didn’t hold them long, I sold them for 6 bucks each.
