Found a few more 2000 AD-related things:
a Strontium Dog collection that seems to contain most of the early stories, the ones that came out before it was in 2000 AD. I had been on the fence about reading this particular 2000 AD character but flipping through this early collection both the artwork and the character concept felt more interesting to me than they had before - probably because all I had seen before was a close-up of the lead character that dumb-looking helmet on his head (still think the helmet doesn't look good).
the third of three Halo Jones and the last four of seven Nemesis the Warlock collections: I already had a complete Halo Jones and the first phone-book-style Nemesis, but these earlier volumes were published in a slightly larger format that feels more suitable to me: whether it's my ageing eyesight or that the originals were shrunk down for these more recent editions, I find the older ones easier to read and view. I would have bought the first two Halo Joneses as well but they were apparently signed by Alan Moore and so priced out of my range.
All these were found at a local comic store that had recently received a bunch of 2000 AD stuff. They also acquired a continuous run of the weekly 2000 AD issues themselves from roughly #280 to #450. or something like that, I forget the exact numbers. I'm very tempted to buy the whole lot of them, depending on the price, but I suspect it'll be out of my range - the guy is still figuring out what he wants for them.

Picked up one of the big romance Bronze Age keys - arguably the top key. Very excited!

That cover is awesome - I've seen it posted elsewhere online before. I'm assuming, though, the stories inside are not drawn in the same style (it would be so friggin' cool if they were).

I've added: Green Lantern/Green Arrow #90 (1st Mike Grell) super cheap VG- but looked better in the picture, so hoping... DC Special #16 & 20 (Green Lantern issues) DC Special #29 (Justice Society) DC Special Series #10 (Dr. Fate, Black Canary, Lightray) FN Superboy & The Legion #208 (100 page giant) VG-FN Showcase #94-96 (New Doom Patrol) Showcase #101-103 (Hawkman) had all these Showcases once before, also #100 which I don't think I'll want to get again. and I found an affordable but solid: DC Super Stars #17 (Huntress, Green Arrow, Legion) FN- almost forgot Strange Adventures #9-12 with Ditko Captain Atom reprints. I used to have two but not the other two.
This is my birthday pressie last hurrah for a little while.
I used to have that 1st Huntress long ago, strange which comics I used to have now have value beyond what I'd imagined and which don't. All this 'Key' thing I assume, or movie tie-ins. Really amazed at the interest in the romance comics, nobody used to want those but some great artists worked on them. Liz Berube should have a book of just her work!

Wonder Woman: The Golden Age, Volume 1Yeah, it was published rather recently, but its contents are nothing if not classic. Yet another great deal I found at the Amazon UK Marketplace - cost me about $15 total (i.e., with shipping). It was listed as used, but it looks brand new and unread to me: Golden Age Wonder Woman has always been a blank spot for me, since this material was rarely reprinted anywhere back in the late 1970s and early '80s, but I've always been curious about the early stuff penned by Moulton Marston (and I still think it's criminal that DC published well over 100 digests back then, and not a single one was dedicated to Wonder Woman). This book contains the origin story from All Star Comics, the complete first three issues of her solo title, a story from Comics Cavalcade and the WW stories from the first 14 issues of Sensation Comics. The only one of these I've ever read before is the origin, so I'm looking forward to reading these, although I have no idea when I'll manage to squeeze them into my reading schedule.

A friend wanted to meet at a small show at a VFW this morning. I wasn’t really looking for anything, but picked up some things from a dollar box.

I'll see if I can find the time to take some more photos of comics. Got a pretty beat-up looking Incredible Hulk #175 I'd forgotten about (Inhumans cover story, suh-weet). It was worth a try cleaning with a slightly damp cloth and it cleaned up fairly well; goes from looking GD to about VG, but it's complete and supple, just passable for me. No real value unlike those issues from a few numbers later which are insanely expensive now.

Today was our annual local con Champion City Comic Con, and my last major buying event of the year. My wife ran a panel on tabletop role-playing games 101, so I spent part of the day helping her out but spent a lot of time I raiding dollar and fifty cent boxes the rest of the day, though I did pick up a handful of $3 and $5 books, plus some random stuff at the charity auction (mostly original art pieces, prints, or books by local creators, but I did get a lot that included Batman White Night #3 (1st Neo-Joker/Batman Who Laughs) and Thanos #18 (Venom variant) on the cheap and I will look to see if those books stay hot and flip them at some point in the next year if they do). The single biggest expenditure on the day though was this: the Oz omnibus featuring all the Oz books by Eric Shanower and Skottie Young. Normally a $125 omnibus, I got it for $30. For $30 I also got these three prose books... who had them priced at $15 each but gave me a deal as I bought all three. (JD Martinez just hit a bomb for the Sox as I type this!!!) I picked up the following $5 books, mostly DC Silver Age... I've wanted that Aquaman book since someone used the cover in the classic cover contest but this was the first time I found an affordable copy. The following were $3 books, including a gorgeous Steranko cover on the Creatures on the Loose... all the rest of the comics I got were bargain bin fare, either $1 or fifty cents. Since it was Halloween season (Trick or Treat was last night in our county), there were a lot of horror books in the boxes, so I picked up a lot of them... these Astro City books were 50 cents each... these were 50 centers as well... dollar books... Every show I go to, I seem to run into a book I have never seen before but is right up my alley, this was that book this year... a fully painted fantasy book by David Wenzel I found in a dollar bin. I did pick up two small art commissions as well: I had Nate Lovett, who has done a lot of work for Paw Patrol and did one of the Conan sketches I got last year, add a panel to my Action #1000 ketch cover-he was the first to do a panel on the back and he did a killer Krypto for me... (I also got a full sized full color Flash original drawing Nate did in the charity auction. and had Adam Fields, whom I have mentioned several times here, do a Halloween themed sketch card for me riffing of the pumpkin demon t-shirt I was wearing today... Amy also picked up some art pieces and Star Wars toys for herself after her panel, plus mos of the stuff I got in the charity auction was for her (like a 2016 SDCC swag bag featuring the promo poster for the first Fantastic Beasts movie on the bag and some other stuff). All in all a good day, ended with the roast honoring the local comic person of the year at the con and now home watching the Red Sox hoping they clinch the World Series tonight. -M

Younger than me. (And in better condition.)

He's done a bunch of merchandising stuff for Paw Patrol, which is what I am most familiar with. Here's his con bio from Gem City earlier this year: Here's some of th stuff we have gotten from Nate in the past... dragon prints... Harry Potter print... Star Wars prints... and the Conan headshot I got from him... he's done a lot of work as a colorist for comics, but has done illustration in book publishing and storyboards for animation. He's also done some kid oriented comics for small publishers. -M

Had a little bit of my con budget leftover and a day off today, so I took one of my semi-annual trips to Bookery Fantasy and their dollar comic basement. Picked up the following: The Dreaming #12, 22=25, 31, 34, 37, 39, 41, 42, 44, 47-52, 54 Justice League Adventures #9, 10, 27, 30 Doctor Fate #27-29, 34, 35, 39-41 King's Quest #1-5 King's Watch #1-5 Death of Hawkman #3, 5 Adventures in the DC Universe #7, 8 HP Lovecraft's Dunwich Horror #2-4 also won a Frazetta art book I didn't have in the Lonestar auction last night... and added a few other things to make the shipping worthwhile... another art book, this time Dragonlance... plus Conan the Cimmerian (1 of 2 issues I need to finish the run) Forgotten Realms 18, 20, 24, 25 (completing the series for me) 4 issues (2, 5, 11 and 14) of the Russ Cochran/Gemstone reprints of the EC series Frontline Combat and 2 issues (2, 7) of the same lines reprints of Haunt of Fear I may pick up a few things here and there to fill in some holes, but I think with these, I am pretty much done buying for the year (but never say never). -M

I still can't focus this cheapo digital camera, but here are some highlights from my dipping into '70s DC and Charlton. This first set is interesting as the two DC Special Green Lantern reprint collections were said to be so popular (and both with Mike Grell covers) they led to the title being revived with #90 (also shown here). I can 'blame' a thread on here about a Walt Simonson book for getting these, the first three issues by him of a revived Metal Men and the one-off Dr. Fate, great comics all! Having re-aquainted a Mike Grell DCs I took the plunge on these, never had Warlord #2 before. Yeah, it's a mash-up of ERB's Carson Of Venus and John Carter Of Mars, but I liked it then and like it today.
