I really didn't want to spend on issue # 49, but I'm close to completing the run. I bought 26 and 47 off the new stands .

I haven't been buying a lot of comics so far this year, but I have been making some trades. The first batch of books I traded arrived today. I got these in exchange for a 4 comics and a DVD... I'll post pics later, but there's some Groo, some Scooby Doo, some Kubert books, and some other stuff. -M

Alrighty, breaking down the pile. These were from a dealer I've traded with before through the Gem City FB group. I had some books in my convention stock that he was interested in for some of his customers, and I was interested in a bunch of dollar books he had for sale. The trade was uneven, so he asked me for what kind of stuff I was looking for, and he went through his inventory pulling out Groo, Scooby Doo and Kubert books he had that I was looking for and we balanced things off. All the DC super-hero books were $1, except for Brave & Bold #200, which was $5, and the Batman Black and White trade, which was $5. The horror books were also a $1 each. I am filling some holes in in my Batman stuff, and a few holes in my post #200 JLA run when I can find them on the cheap, so these were all dollar bin dives, which qualify. more to follow... -M

That's a great set of books, and wow, Brave and the Bold 200 for $5, that's awesome (and none too shabby on the other books as well!)

Yeah, I already had a copy of B&B #200 from a trade last year, but I couldn't pass on it for that price. I'll probably retrade it (or trade the higher grade copy I got last year) somewhere down the line for something else I am looking for. -M

Katana is the main 1st appearance there, I think, boosted slightly by her appearance in Suicide Squad, the worst movie ever made.

Bought Captain America Epic Collection "Dawn's Early Light" (#247-#266 and Annual #5), which will make this my first epic collection Really nice looking book, though I wish they pages didn't feel like they were going to tear at any instant Remember reading the Stern/Byrne run a few years ago and thinking that it was "okay" at best, maybe my opinion will change with a re-read. The volume does include one of my favorite issues, #256 "The Ghosts Of Greymoor Castle"

I see a lot of people disregard it because it's a "fill-in" issue that had the misfortune to follow the Stern/Byrne run. I only just recently read the original story it references from the Lee/Kirby run.
I think this might have been my first experience with Gene Colan's art... which I hated at the time! (I was 10.)

Is it glossy like the Masterworks or is it matt? And how does it compare to the original newsprint paper stock that these comics originally appeared on? Is it comparable to the original comics in terms of how the colours look?

And how does it compare to the original newsprint paper stock that these comics originally appeared on? Is it comparable to the original comics in terms of how the colours look? Hmmmm... I've never owned a Masterwork, but it's comparable to the types of paper that you get in an Omnibus, which kind of excuses the price range that the epic collections usually go for. (I would have greatly prefered newspulp like in the Essentials line, but c'est la vie) The colors are nice and sharp. With a lot of these reprints, I worry about the colors being too bright and kind of ignoring the how they were originally printed and taking into account the newsprint muddying it a little
