So, what's the paper like in those Epic collections? Is it glossy like the Masterworks or is it matt? And how does it compare to the original newsprint paper stock that these comics originally appeared on? Is it comparable to the original comics in terms of how the colours look? Hmmmm... I've never owned a Masterwork, but it's comparable to the types of paper that you get in an Omnibus, which kind of excuses the price range that the epic collections usually go for. (I would have greatly prefered newspulp like in the Essentials line, but c'est la vie) The colors are nice and sharp. With a lot of these reprints, I worry about the colors being too bright and kind of ignoring the how they were originally printed and taking into account the newsprint muddying it a little One thing I would add is that Marvel uses multiple different printing companies for their Epic collections. Some of them, particularly in more recent years, have been notoriously really bad, some are still OK. Paper quality can differ quite a bit, and in the worst examples very thin and the ink literally warps the pages (like wavy lines running though each page). Older Epic collections tended to be better, but the paper quality on the hardcover Masterworks (not the new reduced size paperback ones they just introduced) is higher quality. But on the Epic collections, varying printing quality aside, I agree with Batflunkie on the coloring. The same re-coloring you see on the Masterworks that brightens up everything appears in these as well.

Marvel Super-Heroes #15 is such a great book! That awesome Gene Colan art! I've never seen this book before and add it to my list as soon as I saw it in this thread! Great cover!

I have a strange new obsession. I'd say I'm not proud, but I'd be lying 😁 Left to right: (top) Swedish, American, American TPB, (bottom) Swedish, Thai, Mexican.

That 80 years of Detective Comics volume is pretty awesome! I have it right here! I read the first Riddler story once a month or so.
The Long Halloween ... not so much. I’ve never understood why it’s so highly regarded. And what did they do to Calendar Man?

These books were all in the dollar boxes, BUT-- the post holiday sale at my LCS included dollar bins-- at "buy-1-get-3-free".
So effectively, all these books were a 25 cents apiece. Essentially, I paid the princely sum of $12 for this batch of 48 books.
I basically filled up a short box, so this is part 1 of 2 of the bargain bin books... lots of "reader copies", but many in surprisingly nice condition. Part 2 will be posted in a separate post, but probably not until I get back from my travels this coming week.

tartanphantom sweet haul. I rarely see any Rock/OOAW in dollar bins anymore, let alone quarter bins. I would have so snapped them as well. -M

Most of the OOAW books clock in around 3-4.0 in condition, but they're all complete... perfect for readable placeholders in a collection!

That's pretty much where the vast majority of my OOAW issues fall. A few outliers in either direction, but most in that low-end midgrade. -M
