There's a comic shop opposite the recording studio in Walthamstow, London where I've been recording a new album over the past 3 months. As yesterday was our final studio session, I thought I'd pop in and support them with a few purchases. On the upside, they had a nice selection of Bronze and Silver Age back issues and plenty of old British comics. On the downside, they were quite overpriced, I felt. I did pick up a copy of Detective Comics #429 in VG condition for £10.75, which I felt was an OKish price, but when I enquired as to the price of a few mid-70s issues of Dr. Strange that were in GD- or even Poor condition (fairly large chunks missing from some of the covers, for instance) and the owner told me they were £23 each, I thought "nah!" So, a bit of a shame, as I wanted to support a small business, but those prices were just not good value. Anyway, I'm pleased with the issue of Detective Comics that I did pick up.

Frank Robbins’s Man-Bat! I love this story for the manic energy in the art. If I was a bigger fan of Man-Bat I would have read this a lot more often.

I've always had a real soft spot for these kinds of 70s Man-Bat stories. I'm not a huge fan of Frank Robbins's art, but I don't dislike it enough to spoil my enjoyment of the comic. It's written by him too.

Stopped by my lcs today to pick up my pulls and found these 4 in the "new old stuff" boxes. Three Kubert covers I didn't have and the last issue of GI War Tales I needed for the run. -M

Hardly have any of those but might see about getting some, especially the 68-80pg dollar issues.

Quite pleased with this high grade #2 which will be 50 years old this year. I've got a generous sprinkling of issues before he teams up with Iron Fist....

I got this Complete Collection at my regular LCS for less than half of cover price a couple of Wednesdays ago. It'll let me both sell the 2/3 of the series that I already collected as well as stop trying to hunt the remaining issues down. Then, I got out the past couple of weekends to visit a couple of new stores in the area. They're sister stores on opposite sides of town, so I hit one two Saturdays ago and the other this past Saturday. Everything below was $1 except for one book. Some issues of Batman and Detective from the time period where I'll pick them up cheap. A couple of late-series Conan issues I needed to fill holes. Thought the Morbius issue might have some value due to the Spidey appearance and grabbed the MTU because of Speed Demon The first Morbius/Spidey issue, bought for the same reason as the other one (which I'd picked up the previous week). The "What If" wound up being a duplicate, so I gave it to my daughters to read, and the Hellblazer TPB, collecting the end of the series, was the "big" purchase of the two trips, costing a whole $5. Three more Jonah Hex issues taken off the list toward completing the series (only need nine more). Bought the Poison Ivy book because it looked interesting, and couple more Conans to fill holes. Last purchase to report from these trips was to help pay for my daughters' college and to ensure my financial future:

Late night mail call from CGC as I preserve some issues from my collection. Books I bought as a kid off the spinner rack or in the back issue bin. For items that are less than 2 bucks paid, I'm happy how they came out. -Marvel Presents #1 -Moon Knight #56

I loved the George Tuska art at the beginning of that series.

Got this in the mail on the cheap , about 5 bucks total. I had the original comics when they came out and enjoyed the art , although I'm not really a Jordan fan. I lent it out and never saw them again.

Picked up a few issues of Yummy Fur today that I happened across in a store that isn't primarily a comics shop but sells a few old ones as a kind of side-business. I had a few back in the early 90s but lost them somehow or other, so I was happy to find these and it gave me the idea of completing the series - but much to my surprise, Lonestar doesn't even list it on their site: a search for the title yields only one compilation, not the series itself.

Only one I've kept. BWS was in top form, but the writing left something to be desired.

OK, the winter loot: Bought on the 30th of December, shipped on the 4th, received on the 11th via UPS. Walt's Comic Shop: I only really wanted the Thor book, but I saw the, already OOP, ASM Epic Collection at basically the cover price and added the freebies to make up for postage. Bought on the 4th of February, shipped on the 8th, received on the 14th via UPS. Walt's Comic Shop: I only really wanted the Moon Knight book, but I saw the, already OOP, ASM Epic Collection at 19€ for 19 issues, and couldn't resist. It also makes up for postage. Bought on the 7th, shipped on the 8th, received on the 28th via USPS Media Mail (3 days for domestic delivery) + GSP (Sending). USA eBay seller: At the same time I won this auction, another one for #168 was in progress at LS. That copy was worse and already going for a higher price before finishing. Is it just my impression of do auctions at Lone Star reach higher prices? Bought on February 14 (released on the 1st?), sent on the 22nd!, received on the 26th via ?. Amazon (UK): At least this one arrived in good shape, unlike the last three TPBs from Amazon. Bought on 1st, shipped on the 2nd, received on the 4th! via Correos. Amazon (DE): Another damaged one, this time I asked for a 10% reimbursement. Too many badly packaged books already. When they ship in proper boxes they arrive well, but when they use cardboard envelopes, it's a lottery. More often than not, they become damaged, which is why I've mostly shifted to Walt. That guy knows how to ship, and books leave his premises in NM condition, is something arrives less than that to him, he sells them at a discount (like the Epic Collection above). Try and find the defect. On the bright side, final price was 65.95€ for 33 issues.
