That issue is cold right now. Recent unslabbed copies on eBay are going for $20 or less. Copies graded 9.2 will get you $150, a 9.4 sold recently for roughly $250. I doubt you may find a copy as good as this one (or better) for less than $57 (which was the auction's final bid). Even today, this is what I see:
- Nothing on Spain (todocolección)
- Nothing on the UK (eBid)
- Nothing on eBay (Spain or continental Europe)
- Two copies on eBay.co.uk (CGC 7.0 for £75 and raw for £49.95)
- Nothing on UK's biggest shop, Silver Acre
- $99 on Mile High, so less than $40 with the discount for a Fine copy
Remember, not all of us live in the US, and eBay imposes quite a premium on imports when buying from this side.
PS: I forgot about issue 234, had to go with the true believers reprint on this one, as it was expensive and the reason was downright idiotic (first use of the name "Quasar" for the character). Apologies, my friend, for my US-centric view on this. You were right to call me out on it. I feel very lucky to have picked up many of these “non-key keys”, like Hulk #234, years ago from a large comic chain in my area that has a huge warehouse. They open it up twice a year and everything in it is a dollar; I used to be able to fill a long box for $200 (the price has since jumped to $250). This was before the MCU existed and people were speculating on anything and everything that might someday have the slightest bump in value due to a connection to a show or movie.

I bid on a low grade copy of Detective Comics #266 and I won! Only $34! It’s complete and the cover is attached at one staple! Beyond that, who knows! When it comes, I’ll have every issue of Detective from #262 to the present, which is ... I think the latest issue was #1055. Wow, that's a pretty long run.

Are they still doing that warehouse sale this year? I don’t know. They usually do it twice, once at the end of January and the other at the end of September, but they didn’t do the January one. I’m on their e-mail list, so I’ll keep an eye out and let the forum know if they announce anything later in the year.

So having learned that one of the longest standing comic shops in the area (Bookery Fantasy) was ceasing carrying new comics and running a sale on their bargain basement books section (all $1 books and $3 magazines were $0.49), I decided to take a ride over on Thursday to see what was going on. It had been my lcs when I first moved out here 19 years ago, but hadn't been my regular lcs since 2005, but I still did some back issue and gaming shopping there a couple times a year. There are two storefronts, across the street from each other. One, the collectibles side, houses premium back issues, pulps, movie posters, vintage paperbacks collecting supplies, and new arrival dollar books (still $1) before they go to the bargain basement. The other side houses new comics, recent back issues, a full game store, and the bargain basement downstairs. I went to the collectibles side first, and picked up a handful of back issues and dollar books. The back issues were all DC war books with Kubert covers and one issue of Marvel's Combat Kelly... and the random $1 books I got were these four... just need the last issues of Lost Continent now, and I will never say no to a Vess sketchbook. I also picked up 5 $1 vintage paperbacks (though one of them was a flip book featuring 2 Jack Vance novels. I was excited yo find some Frederic Brown novels, someone mentioned in the ubiquitous Appendix N to the DMG whom I had never read. Over across the street, I looked around the game store for a bit but found nothing I had to have, but in their used DVD section I did find copies of the animated Hobbit and Return of the King features which I had lent and never gotten back several years ago, so since they were only $5 each I picked those up, and then headed down to the Bargain Basement to see what I could find. It was a lot of semi-recent back issues and Marvel and DC filler books I had no interest in, but I did manage to find a handful of D&D related comics... but I did find what I was hoping was still there. Last time I was there (about 4 months ago) they had a huge stash of issues of Comics Revue, but they were $3 a pop and that was more than I had to spend at the time. Now those mags were $0.49 and I was hoping some of that stash was still there and it was. Pretty much everything I saw last time was still there, a pile of 36 issues of Comics Revue, featuring everything form Skymasters by Kirby and Wood to Flash Gordon by Dan Barry to Modesty Blaise to Bloom County, and I snagged them all... I didn't have time to root through the whole room-I might go back in a few weeks depending on budget, they had 3-4 longboxes of Archie stuff I want to sift through looking for red dress covers for instance, but I am not sure how long the sale is going to last or what will happen after April 1 when they cease carrying new comics. They are keeping the collectibles side open, but they are not sure what's going to happen with the storefront across the street. Oh, but the biggest find was that they actually had silver age backing boards in stock, so I managed to get a couple hundred so I can now make some progress on the reorganization of my comics project. All in all, not a bad day of comic foraging. Really exited to dive into some classic comic strips. -M

Friends and I were looking forward to a show in Syracuse yesterday, but it was called off due to weather. So, we decided on lunch and an Ollie's run... Not exactly comics, but with the new issue of Squa Tront (#14) coming out, I decided to get that and fill in my run. I had 1 (1967) through 10 (2002), and just found 13 at a good price. I think I'll have to pay some bucks for 11 and 12, though.

Friends and I were looking forward to a show in Syracuse yesterday, but it was called off due to weather. So, we decided on lunch and an Ollie's run... That Doom Patrol TPB has a funny story. The original edition from the early 90's (Bysley cover) missed 5 pages. Then they started reprinting all the series in 6 volumes (2004), and this time they only missed 2. By 2016 they made a new edition in just 3 volumes and that one has all the pages.
I bought the original, then the floppies and when they came out the 6 TPBs. I even ordered the one you picture, but after a couple of moths with no news about it, I cancelled.

This Night Nurse Special Edition from 2015 collects the 70s Night Nurse series 1-4 and Daredevil 80 in a 112 page comic book. It had a fairly small circulation, under 10k copies. I don't have the original Night Nurse books and they are insanely expensive now in high grade so this will do just fine.

It's actually a pretty good read too! I still think that if Night Nurse had been originally released a just few years earlier than it actually was, that it would have lasted much longer than 4 issues. The Win Mortimer interior art is actually pleasing and works well for the title.
As far as the Daredevil story, I found it to be an interesting re-imagining of the character-- certainly not a cookie-cutter re-vamp or ret-con.

Went to a show yesterday, first time since the pandemic started. Only bought two back issues. One was Street Poet Ray #1. The other was this: How was the attendance of the show, and where there many comic dealers, dollar boxes? Only two back issues? Attendance was fairly sparse, which is par for the course for this show. The show is fine, it's just that the entry is $35, and it should be $15 for what you get. So that limits how many people want to pony up. I only attend really because it's only about 6 miles from my house. If it was an hour drive, no way. There was a fair selection of dealers. Lots of dollar boxes, but many of them were modern stuff. One dealer had about a dozen long boxes of bronze and early Copper books for $3 each. I know some people here would have found some choice stuff in those boxes, there was a fair amount of Marvel horror for instance, like Tomb of Horror and Weird Wonder Tales. But I didn't find anything for myself. One dealer had quite a lot of Charlton romance, but alas, nothing I needed either.

Yesterday there was a show in NJ but I opted not to go. I'm in a funny place where I feel like just getting rid of 50% of my collection. I doubt I'll read them again and it amounts to a chore every time I deal with my comics.

Anyone go shopping on Mile High Comics recently? This book in Fine is 167.00 and VF 282.00...what's so hot about it? I got it because it's a nice looking #200 edition
Mine falls somewhere in-between but might nudge VF if I get it pressed... and cost $5.50.
What a great cover! I've somehow never seen that one before. I look on EBay and it’s running around 7.50. And a VF for 30.00 I never liked Mile High. I always found the prices way to high and I’ve gotten issues that were nowhere near the condition they stated.
