If it doesn't exist, I'd create a "Professionaly Graded Comics's Big Thread". This pops up very often, and there's a number of people on this forum with different and articulated opinions on the subject.

I have really no idea how grades work... I'm sure I could learn, but it really doesn't interest me. In my head there is 'new' (the condition ones buys a comic from the story) 'good' (a slightly read book, or one the cat sat on and bent a bit, etc) and 'old readers copy' (well-loved books from the old days, but still intact and readable).
But I digress.. I took a break from reading my Wolverine Epic collection to read a different trade I got last week... Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire . How was no one ever talked about this book before??? It top flight Sword and Planet stuff with awesome art from Don Lawrence.. apparently it started in 'Ranger' then ended up in a British educational magazine for kids called 'Look and Learn'.
There's a few too many last minute saves and coincidences perhaps, but the art and designs are amazing! Not sure why vol. 1 was randomly in the Previews a couple months ago when I ordered it (it came out a couple years ago), but I'm really glad it was! Any of you British peeps out there fans?

Any of you British peeps out there fans? It's not talked about much around here because it's hardly known outside of the UK. Even in the UK, it's not a comic strip that has transcended its era to become known by the wider population as a pop culture reference, like Dan Dare or Judge Dredd have. Myself, I've only read a small amount of the Trigan Empire -- and there is a LOT of it! It ran for almost two decades. The little I've read was enjoyable, and the Don Lawrence painted artwork is to die for, but it never blew me away in the same way that Dan Dare did. That said, I have always vaguely planned to read more of it someday.

I liked it ALOT more than Dan Dare (which I couldn't get into). It's definitely less Buck Rogers and more John Carter, with even a bit of Conan mixed in. The trades are pretty cheap too, if you're interested (the price on the back is 19.99 in pounds).

Drove over to Yellow Springs to pick up my pulls at Super Fly today (they had Silver Age boards in stock yeah!). It was sucha gorgeous day I decided to walk over the Dark Star Books and do a little quarter bin and dollar bin diving, and came home with a handful of books. Here are the quarter bin finds (6 books total)... I had a weird hankering for Marvel cosmic the other week and went to sample some Quasar on Unlimited and discovered it is one of those series that is not well represented there, with less than a quarter of the run available, so when I saw a couple for a quarter each I grabbed them. -M

Never have read any Trigan Empire but glad to hear about these new collections, I'll definitely be looking for them. I've always liked sword and planet stories, though I haven't yet read much outside of the ERB stuff.

I've decided to exit collecting pricey back issues and just focus more on trades that I'm interested in reading. I have a real soft spot for the 90's, it was a period in which I rediscovered my love of comic books after stepping away around '87. The 90's included my college years as well, and lots of good memories picking up whatever bargains I could find and enjoy as a diversion from my studies. Say what you will about the creative quality of the era, but a number of the comic books were actually colorful and fun again, something that was increasingly getting lost in the 80's. So that said, I just picked up this X-Factor collection covering material from mostly 1994. I'm about a quarter of the way through, but one pleasant surprise already has been the inclusion of the 3 issue mini-series Spider-Man and X-Factor: Shadowgames. Totally pedestrian storytelling, but what really stands out is that Spider-Man was actually fun in this series and not so mopey like he was becoming in his regular titles. Pat Broderick art fits nicely as well. The rest of the volume is from the X-Factor title. I'll use the word pedestrian again (at least so far as I've made it through), but I kind of like the composition of the team. Polaris is an absolute favorite character of mine, so that kind of makes it worth it alone, plus Wolfsbane is always cool, and Guido is hilarious to me, so oddball and I'll use another word again, "fun". Some nice Jan Duursema art on the issues I've read so far as well. Overall, a light reading volume, pretty much just what I was looking for!

Bought on the 15th, shipped on the 15th, received on the 18th via Royal Mail 2nd Class (to UK address). UK eBay seller: I bought it from Lone Star a while ago, but was misbound. This copy is better (not to mention "reader friendly"), but twice as expensive.

Didn't know about Marvel Spectacular, still kills me how many Marvel reprint titles there are (great for collectors that don't want to pay an arm an a leg for sure). Would be inclined to collect it if I didn't already have most of it in the Epic Collection format, though the Troll War issues are tempting

Sorry, but not a big Mooney fan outside of his Spiderman art

I got Detective Comics #249 in the mail yesterday. That’s the one where Bruce Wayne is on Death Row, and Batwoman and Robin have to figure out how to save him before he gets the electric chair.

That makes no sense, but hey, what are you going to do? I also looked up that issue that I posted online, it doesn't even include the Tales Of Asgard story that was originally in that issue. It had one that was in JIM #123
