How does the colouring look on those Epic collections, pretty much the same as the Masterworks hardcovers? Old Masterworks HCs had new coloring (with gradients and all). Epic collections have the original coloring AFAIK.

DC's trade and archive department has been a wasteland of false promises for over 20 years of reprinting books. Remember when Marvel used to have those cheap black and white reprints volumes (the Essential lines), DC tried that and didn't know how to promote those. Then all the items they've solicited and resolicited and nothing's ever come from them. Heck, they've promoted the Parobeck JSA trade 5 times in over 10 years and still nothing's come from it. I had to create my own bind. Trust me, I have more DC stuff (and some Vertigo runs) that will finally get their due from me. Nice part is I've posted these on Twitter, tagged some of the creators and they're amazed. I've had a few reach out to me to sign their binds. They're happy that they got the a trade in some format. -R Some of those Showcase volumes are worth crazy amounts of money these days, especially The Warlord. DC just seems to not know what to do with anything that isn't Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, or Green Lantern I was actually really impressed with the variety of the DC Showcase volumes. I feel like Marvel went for the low-hanging fruit with a LOT of their tentpole characters, and usually starting from their beginnings in the 60's... With the exception of the occasional Killraven, Nova, etc. But DC gave us what I feel represents more variety of genres, and eras... Along with a lot of Silver Age superheros, they produced Amethyst, Ambush Bug, Blue Beetle (80's), Warlord, House of Mystery, House of Secrets, Unknown Soldier, Phantom Stranger, Captain Carrot, All-Star Squadron, Jonah Hex, Super Friends, Shazam, etc. Also, let me say the production values in the DC volumes were much tighter than in the Marvel volumes. In the Marvel volumes, I found it commonplace to find empty word balloons, out of order or missing pages, "paste up" errors, printing blotches, etc. DC's were much cleaner and more polished in that respect. I find that to be the case with their respective collected editions, as a whole.

Amazon just dropped this off, the new Avengers Epic Collection that covers #129-149, Giant-Size Avengers #2-4, and some other material from that timeframe (1974-1976). I'm really excited about this one because out of those listed, I was missing 7 issues that I don't have in other collections or as single issues. This is right in the heart of my favorite period, so can't wait to read. With this collection, I now have the first 9 Avengers Epic Collections that take me all the way from the start to #166, and then via other collected editions I have a full run through #277 (including I think most/all of the annuals), with the exception of #169 that was a fill-in during the Korvac saga and not included in that trade (inexpensive single issue to pick up though). Epic Collections are slowly becoming my favorite thing to both collect and buy (I own four of them so far), I just wish they weren't printed out of order You've got to hand it to them for having the foresight to print them out of order AND number them correctly, so that as lower numbers are printed, they fall correctly into the order of the books. Genius.

How does the colouring look on those Epic collections, pretty much the same as the Masterworks hardcovers? I feel like the coloring on the Epic collections is far superior and closer to the intention of the originals. The caveat being that I think some of the Epics are actually just reprinting verbatim what had appeared in the MM volumes (I could be wrong about that), especially the silver age stuff. But the matte paper is a huge difference that softens even the most garish colors.

I put low bids on five issues of Superman Family from #165 to #175. And I got them all for less than $2 each!
Unfortunately this does not include the one where Batgirl is the guest star and Supergirl fights Cleopatra!

They're pretty good alternatives to Omnis and usually go for $20 to $30 once they've been out a while

In addition to those issues of Superman Family mentioned above, I also purchased these over the last few days:
Marvel Team-Up #30 (with the Falcon)
Batman Archives, Volume Eight (reprinting Detective Comics #155 to #171)
Detective Comics #214 (CGC 2.5) (I won’t be popping the seal on this one because I’ve read it online recently)

I remember doing a bid on large run of $1 issues and got them for 0.55c each in high grade.
I still have to get some of the earlier mid 70s 50c issues, 176-179 come to mind.

Picked up an Excalibur Epic Collection that covers late 1996 through 1997 era. Contains the Excalibur main series issues from this timeframe, plus the Kitty Pryde: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and New Mutants: Truth or Death minis, as well as a Colossus one-shot.

Picked up this Excalibur Epic Collection that covers late 1996 through 1997 era. Funny, I have some issues of the Ellis era, with #103 just coming in today, and that Epic picks up exactly the following issue.

Bought on the 8th, shipped on the 11th, received on the 15th via Royal Mail 2nd Class (to UK address). UK eBay seller: These four Hulk issues were supposedly deposited on my mailbox a month ago, but I never saw them. On top of wasting my time writing here and there, calling DHL and visiting my post office, I had to order them again from the UK. #275 from the order below, the others from another vendor. The price of the books (and postage) were similar, but with customs I had to pay more for them, in the end. The Mantlo/Sal team is now represented by 22 Hulk comics in my collection. Bought on the 12th, shipped on the 16th, received on the 25th via Royal Mail Tracked & Signed + Correos. Comicana (18th order): It still doesn't seem right to place 90's comics in the "classic" category.

It still doesn't seem right to place 90's comics in the "classic" category. Valiant books from the reboot era are ten years old at this point and I'm still leery about calling them "classic comics"
