I ordered Legion of Super-Heroes #1 to #4 off eBay. This is the 1973 reprint series. I’ve always wanted the whole series because the Computo reprint in #4 was my introduction to the Legion.
I was at a party when I was a kid and I took a little break from cake and ice cream and party games to sit in the den and read a coverless comic book. I thought it was one of the stupidest things I’d ever read, but I couldn’t forget it, and years later I was very happy when I found both parts of the story in the Legion Archives. It took me forever to figure out what issue I had been looking at when I was a kid.

Got a visit yesterday from Randy of Randy's Readers Comics, who dropped by to deliver the $136 worth of back issues he still owed me from the trade I did with him in 2019 for a stack of Golden and Silver Age DCs. Here's what he brought:
DC
Adventure Comics 313, 364 (both featuring Legion of Super-Pets appearances) All-Star Squadron 27, 30-31, 39-40, 46, 51, 53-54, 56, 58, 60 Ambush Bug 2, 4 (still need 3) Batman and the Outsiders 28-29 DC Comics Presents 55, 61, 64-65, 69, 71, 77, 79, 85, 89, 97 (slowly closing in on a complete set of DCCP) Green Arrow 1-3 (this is the mini by Barr and Von Eeden; still need 4) Justice League of America 115, 144, 221-222, 227, 230, 239, 242, 251 (8 more issues and I'll have a complete run of 94-261) Secrets of the Legion 2 (completes this mini) Superman 329, 361 (the first has a Mr. & Mrs. Superman story, the second a Captain Strong appearance) Superman: The Secret Years 1-3 (still need 4) Weird Western Tales 32-34, 38, 49, 57-58, 61-62, 66, 70 (buncha Scalphunters plus some Jonah Hex) Wonder Woman 322-324, 326-328 (giving me a complete run of WW from thesoft reboot in 269 through the end of the original run) World's Finest Comics 223, 228, 230, 235, 238, 254, 258, 263, 323
Marvel
Chamber of Darkness Special 1 Inhumans 4, 11 Invaders 24 Ka-Zar the Savage 5, 10, 16, 22, 25, 27, 31, 34 Marvel Team-Up 56, 138
...and that's it. A sweet haul that completes some collecting goals and brings me closer to others.
Cei-U! I summon the happy dance!

So I'd had $400 set aside in case Randy went nuts filling my want list but since he didn't, I decided to spend a fraction of that money to plug a few small holes in my collection via Lone Star. I ordered:
Ambush Bug 3 Green Arrow 4 Green Lantern 111 (giving me all the E2 GL stories from that title) Superman: The Secret Years 4 Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual 1 West Coast Avengers Annual 1 Wonder Woman 269-270 (thought I had these but was mistaken; NOW I have everything from the soft reboot in 269 through the end of the run) World of Krypton 3
...all for a hair over $50 with shipping.
Cei-U! I summon the money well spent!

I’ve been researching the early appearances of Poison Ivy, and it’s kind of odd how seldom she faces Batman one-on-one in the first 15 years.
She fights Wonder Woman in World’s Finest #251 and #252. I found those two issues cheap on eBay and ordered them.

I found a low-grade Justice League #111 at a good price and I decided to go ahead and order it. Not only does it have Poison Ivy’s first appearance with the Injustice Gang, it also has a Seven Soldiers of Victory reprint!

The opened a new Ollie's on my drive to work, so I stopped in to check on the comic selection. It was nicely organized (having only been opened for about an hour). They only had maybe 20 different trades, but they were pretty good ones. I got the last TPB of Ennis' Hellblazer... the last two trades of Snyder's Batman... a Tomasi Superman trade that seems to have Jon in it still, and a Young Adult theme trade that looked interesting for under $20. They also had the first Fables volume (which I've seen at the other Ollie's in my area) and a few other Rebirth DC trades I already had from previous trips. Not much Marvel.... a Jane Foster era Thor trade and the Future Imperfect series from Secret Wars (which I picked up but put back down). They had some grab bags as well, but though I was tempted by the IDW ones (6.99 for 10 comics) I decided to pass since such things often live on the too ead pile for a long time. Speaking of Ollie's... I was in my local store this weekend, and they had this box set... original price, $500... their price $90.... still too pricy for me, since I was really only interested in the 70's 80's material....

I have the originals and various reprints but I think I still would have had to get it.

Justice League of America #111 came in the mail today!
It’s a 100-page Super-Spectacular from 1974.
It has the fifth appearance of Poison Ivy! I’ll be talking about that in the Bat-Splaining thread in a few days.
And it has a Seven Soldiers of Victory reprint and a really terrible Silver-Age JLA reprint. So I’ll probably be talking about it in the JLA thread as well.

Oh, and #111 starts my JLA streak, as I have every issue from #111 till the end of the series.

I read the first story in JLA #111, the one where Poison Ivy is part of the Injustice Gang. And then I read the first few segments of the Seven Soldiers story. I did not know that it’s continued in the next issue! But I’m not really that eager to read the whole thing because I’ve already read it in the SSOV Archives volume, which I can get from the Los Angeles county library system.
Glancing at the Silver Age JLA story, I see that it’s one of the really really terrible ones, with the guy who has the giant screw on his head. It’s very rare for me to refrain from reading a story in a recently-purcased comic book just because I’ve read that particular story before. Unless I’m in a very tolerant mood, I may go ahead and skip this one.

When to ebay looking for the next one back for my Iron Man run (#71, to be precise) and ended up getting a bunch of stuff from the seller.. A big run of recent Flash, a few Green Lanten/Green Arrow books (6.. but none of the famous ones), and a couple other odds and ends. Very good haul!
