Wouldn't Marvel Tales reprints have the same colouring? Nope. They weren't done until the 80s and by that time they had been "corrected" for Origins and the new coloring was used, not the old I believe. I think I still have the Marvel Tales issue (though it might have been one I sold at the last con I set up at, I'd have to look in my con stock to be certain). -M

Not cheap, though. But there's always the Omnibus:

Haven't picked up many back issues lately, but recently made a couple of trades as I thinned out books I no longer wanted and turned them into stuff I did. One of the packages arrived inthe mail today, haven't had a chance to sort through it yet, but this was my mail call today... As I sort through I will take pics and post details later. -M

I looked up Godzilla #1 on Mile High Comics and it's a $200 book in FINE so your top book might have you on a roll.....

I traded a Catwoman #51 (Hughes cover F/VF), a F Omega Men #3 (1st Lobo) and 4 mid-grade Kirby Mister Miracles (1-4) for the stack, plus I still have a bunch of credit with the dealer. I was satisfied, he was satisfied, but I am not sure how the value actually balanced out, but as long as we were both happy, I was cool with it. -M

Alrighty, so starting to break down that pile. Some of these books I traded for because they were among the issues I had as a kid, and I am slowly trying to recreate that collection. One of my favorite books as a kid was Avengers, so I added a bunch of Avengers issues in this trade-I had all but #146 as a kid, and I grabbed 146 because it was part of that stretch b/w 144-147 where I started picking up Avengers that had cliffhangers not continued in the next issue b/c of the Dreaded Deadline Doom and fill-in issues. #146 was the 2nd part of the 2 part fill in b/w 144 and 147 and I always wanted the continuations as a kid, so I added it to the pile o'stuff I was getting. More as I get it sorted and pics taken. -M

Another series I had a fair few issues of in relation to my overall collection as a kid was Marvel Team Up. I had 40, 42, and 45 as a kid, and 42 and 45 were part of a longer story I didn't have the other parts featuring Doom's Time Machine, so I also snagged 2 of those other parts in this trade... I just need to find a #43 (which I also had as a kid) to complete this story (though I can read it anytime on Unlimited). Another book I had a few of, was the reprint book Marvel Double Feature that had SA Cap and Shellhead stories from TOS. I snagged the three I had as a kid, and a bunch more as they were $1 filler the dealer had. I also snagged some Marvel's Greatest Comics $1 fillers, plus FF #139, which I had as a kid and Marvel Fanfare 39, the start of the Black Widow arc by Perez, which completes that arc for me. The rest of the Marvel Bronze stuff I got were the Godzilla #1 (and 2 more early Godzilla issues including the 1st Red Ronin) and an issue of Invaders I needed to fill a hole in my run... The rest of the pile was DC and a pair of indy variants. I'll get to those in a short bit. -M

So the last batch, this time DC stuff. I pick up Bronze Age Batman whenever I see it at a good price (usually reading copies) so I snagged these three issues of Detective... and I have a large run of Bronze Age JLA that has some holes in it, so I grab any of the issues I need when I find them at the right price, he had a couple plus some of the 80 and 100 page Giants I snagged... and these two weren't part of the trade, they were throw ins, but he knows I am a huge fan of Joe Kubert and of Robert E. Howard, so he threw in 2 of the Kubert variants Dark Horse did when they expanded their line of Howard books to include Kull and Kane. There's a Conan variant too (I can't remember if I have a copy or not, I need to look) and all 3 form a single interlocking image. Here's the 2 I got... And that's the pile. I still have a bunch of credit with this dealer, so I am sure I will put together another pile form him at some point. I also have a large pile of stuff waiting for me to pick up from the FB auctions group I am in, that I am supposed to pick up on Wednesday (Jesse works 2 towns over near the Half Price Books and Target I go to, so I pick up books when I make a trip over there). There's a bunch of Bronze Age Batman in that lot, and other stuff too. I have to bring the Moebius books I have doubles of I am trading to him for that haul, so probably sometime Wednesday or Thursday I will have more stuff to post (though I am scheduled to get my COVID booster on Thursday morning so it maybe delayed if it knocks me for a loop). And yes, that's a lot of Marvel & DC super-hero books for me, something I don't usually do a lot of, but in recreating my childhood collection, that's what I had the most of, and Bronze Bats and JLA is one of the few cape style books I still collect. -M

I received The Thief Inoue Akikazu and Other Stories by Osamu Tezuka (English edition).
The stories contained within this volume were originally published in the '70s.

Went to one of my favorite annual shows this weekend. It's a small show in Russellville, KY, about 2 hours from my house. Usually no more than 12-15 dealers, but the show has been going on for several years now and shows no signs of stopping. It's always free admission, and the show is comic-centric, meaning most dealers are selling comics, with a smattering of toys here and there.
This show has always been a goldmine for me, and I've found stuff there that I have never seen anywhere else. Maybe it's good timing, luck of the draw, whatever, but I've never walked away feeling disappointed.
This time around, I came home with a short box full of treasures, of which over half were pre-code books that I picked up at unbelievable prices.
I've got so much good stuff that I'm going to have to do two separate posts, with the really "good stuff" coming in the 2nd post.
For now, here's the first batch-- mostly books needed toward completing runs--

OK, here is part II of my haul from the Russellville KY comic show.
I bought all of these from the same dealer, except the very first one pictured. This dealer was a fairly young guy who had comics loose (but bagged) in stacks on his table-- no long boxes or anything like that. Basically he told me that they had belonged to his father, and that he had inherited the collection. He said that he had pulled out what he wanted to keep and was selling the rest.
Honestly, I was astonished at what he was getting rid of. There were a lot of coverless and well-worn books in poor-to-good condition, but there were some real gems in G+ to VG+ condition as well. And when we're talking about books from this era, VG+ is usually considered as darn good condition. Heck, the fact that these books escaped the Wertham witch-hunts and the newspaper drives is a small miracle in itself.
As you will see, almost all of these books are pre-code books, and date as far back as 1941.
But before that, I want to show my "catch of the day"... finding this book made the entire trip worthwhile, as copies of this title are scarce as Hen's teeth and are usually coverless if you find one. I bought this one from a different dealer than the one mentioned above.
I give you, Space Western #43-- April, 1953. This is one of the wackier titles that Charlton published, and there were only 6 issues published. I don't care if the bottom corner is rat-chewed-- it's all there and the cover is still attached.
I got this one for $65, which was the single biggest purchase of the day.
Now for the rest-- I got all of these from the aforementioned dealer who was liquidating the remainder of his dad's collection. If this was the crappy stuff, I'd love to have seen the "good books" that he kept!
And believe it or not-- I paid $2.00 apiece for these.
Yes, you read that correctly.
