Black Friday sales are coming soon. I'm really curious on what everyone is going to get at their LCS or whatever online.

Inched a little closer this weekend to completing my Jonah Hex series. Picked up issues #51 and #92, and while I probably overpaid a little for each of these, I haven't bought any classic comics in at least four months, so I had some money saved and figured that my want list is short enough that it wouldn't kill me to get what I wanted when I had the opportunity to do it. This leaves me just one more to go in the form of #91, which I can't remember the last time I saw one in the wild. I hate to go the eBay route, but if I don't find one in the next few months of my hunt, I may have to break down and just do it. I admire you fellas who only want to buy books that you find "in the wild". I guess you must live nearer a bunch of comic shops than I do or the comic shops near you are more reasonably priced than those in London. I'm pretty much eBay all the way these days when it comes to comics. The last time I was in a physical shop (about a year ago), I was shocked at the ridiculously extortionate prices being asked for even fairly common and not particularly sort after Bronze Age fodder. I kept thinking, "jeez, I've seen multiple copies of this book for way less than this on eBay."

I kept thinking, "jeez, I've seen multiple copies of this book for way less than this on eBay." Yeah, I’ll admit that I’m spoiled by my options for comics shops. Here in Pittsburgh, I can get to at least a dozen good ones within a 45-minute drive, so on a lazy Saturday when I have nothing else going on, I can easily hit 4 of them in less than a couple of hours, and if I have the whole day to hunt, I could get to a half-dozen of them by making a relatively easy circuit around the city. Throw in another half-dozen or so if I expand my range to a 90-minute drive radius, as well as being able to get to another major city (Cleveland) within a couple of hours, then factor in a fairly thriving local comics convention and show scene, and I can almost always come across what I’m looking for with a bit of patience.

First of the Black Friday stops at one of the LCS around me. 50% off back issues and trades. Treated myself to two big books. 1. Harley Quinn Omnibus 2. Power Girl Artist Edition.

Didn't do much "Black Friday" stuff today. It was the birthday of one of my D&D players today, and we've become pretty good friends. Mrs. MRP was stuck at work, but I took my player and his fiancée out to lunch and they wanted to do some "geek shopping" so I took them to a few local shops, my lcs (Super-Fly Comics), the used book store (Dark Star Books) in the same village, and the vintage toy store here in town (Roma's Collectibles) and I picked up a few comics at each place. I didn't do any back issue hunting at my lcs, just picked up my pulls, some GA bags and boards for the Ducks books I picked up recently so I could get them processed and put away, and a handful of the $1 True Believers reprints they had out in their spinner rack (it was kind of fun to browse a spinner rack and pick up some classic Marvels. Also among my pulls was the first volume of the Mighty Marvel Masterworks for Sub-Mariner collecting DD 7 and several of the early TTA stories. Over at Dark Star, they were running 15% off all back issues, but I only picked up 2, but I raided their dollar and quarter bins for some other stuff. At Roma's Aaron was doing his wheel of savings, you spun the wheel when you were done shopping to determine your discount. I grabbed a couple of back issues, spun the wheel and got 20% off. I got a lot of fun readers in the dollar and quarter books at Dark Star, and knocked off 2 more books form my want list of books I had as a kid (ASM 197 and Combat Kelly 6-which completed the run of the 70s Combat Kelly series for me). At Roma's it was a handful of $2-$3 back issues. Here are pics of the book... the quarter books included a handful of Iron Man issues... (except the 225 Marvel Legends reprint, that I got at Roma's) the dollar books were an eclectic mix of stuff.. a Bronze Age Supes in Action with a Cardy cover... a couple of 80s DC books from runs I am trying to fill in... an issue of Blondie from the Harvey series featuring Blondie in a red dress, so I had to get it... 12 cent Charlton sci-fi... a couple of classic era Marvels a Byrne & Perez covers respectively Emil and the Detectives with Dan Spiegle art an issue from one of the Groo minis from DH an issue of Haunted featuring a Ditko cover and interior story... an issue of Katy Keene with an Egyptian/mummy themed cover... (there's a woman in red, but it's not a dress, so no red dress cover here) a Dell Tarzan and one of the Gold Key Star Trek Dynabrite editions... Also at Dark Star, I picked up this Superman novel by Maggin for $4 From Roma I got the following in addition to that Iron Man 225 Legends edition, Micronauts 6 This was one I had as a kid, I have a copy of it, but mine was a beater, this is a nice upgrade. Surfer #75 with the gimmick cover, but I dug those Surfer gimmick covers with the embossed silver (#50 and #75 had it) Two of the books I grabbed at Roma were gifts, so I don't have pics of the right now as I got them for the birthday boy. And that's it. Again, nothing major, but some funky stuff of interest to me and a few more off my want lists at affordable prices. -M

Sweet picks up @mrp ! Love that Katy Keene cover. I'm hitting another LCS here in town to see what they might have for me to raid at 50% off.

Some of my Amazon deals showed up today! I mentioned this in the "what classic comics have you read lately" thread, but I picked up a few Invincible Ultimate Collections for 50% off (volumes 4-6 normally $120). 4 and 5 showed up today, 6 should be here Monday. I'll be jumping into these right away. Next is a nice little box set (slipcase is on the left of the first picture) of "girl power" themed DCAU reprints mostly from the late 90's to early/mid 2000's. They are a bit smaller sized, kind of in between a regular comic and digest sized, but should still make for some fun reading. A little under 50% discount for this and the other books below in total. These last two collections are not technically "classic", but were part of this shipment and bought for "classic reasons" you might say! Gorgeous artwork on the Metal Men collection, very classic versions at least visually. And you had me at Captain Carrot on the second volume.

If you do take the plunge at some point, the Compendium editions are probably the better value these days (I already had the first 3 of the older hardcovers and decided to just stick with those). They are pretty much phonebooks (paperback omnibus style) but again lots of content for the money.

Wow seeing Invincible is able to be called "classic" makes me feel... aged. lol. It's one of those series I always wanted to read, but just never got to. Hope you're enjoying it! Also those DCAU series from the 90s and 2000s were fantastic! Enjoy!

And yeah, the DCAU really are fun as well, thanks! BTW, love your avatar.

Glad you're enjoying them! It's probably because I'm a 90's kid, but the DCAU is like my ideal version of the DCU. Kevin Conroy's voice is the one I hear when I read any Batman comics DCAU or not lol.
Thank you!
