I went to PA to see my Grandson and stopped at a comic shop in Stanton. All these were a buck each.
Good to see you rifling through longboxes looking for Archie
Lately I have a hankerin' for some old time Archies if they are cheap enough.

Wow, fantastic haul, @jaska ! That America's Best TV Comics is particularly intriguing. Thank you sir! That America's Best was my favorite find in the whole batch. I found that while I was debating the FF #19 purchase. I've always really wanted that issue, one of my favorite early FF covers and I love how Kang (my favorite villain of all time) was later revealed as Rama-Tut. I started to waffle on spending the money, and looked up any older reprints of it that might be a "compromise" (I have the actual story reprinted in modern collections already), something still vintage. I found the America's Best TV Comics issue did just that, but also thought the rest of the comic book looked really cool. Then I decided it was now or never to get the actual FF issue, but couldn't pass on picking this up too! Good job! When in doubt, get them both!

I'm no musician, but - Reggie's instrument clearly has six pegs, and it looks like Archie's has four. So Archie was the bass player?

If so, that's one of the shortest scale basses I have ever seen...

Maybe it's a Mando-Caster

Or possibly a tenor guitar.

That would mean that the band doesn't have a bass player. Or Reggie has a six-string bass? Reggie's instrument looks acoustic.

..or possibly the Archie artist didn't know about guitars Finished my 'Treasury of British Comics' collection of Black Max today(one of the books I picked up when Rebellion had their big year end sale)... I suspect Driver and some of our other British friends are familar.. its a WWI fighter mag where the title character, Black Max, has a giant bat he uses to attack the British. It starts out semi-realistic, and has a particular British flyer as the hero, but it gets more and more far out as it goes. Fun stuff, if a bit repetitive when reading it as a collection.

Wouldn't be the first time. If you have a keyboard, (piano, organ, etc) you can generally cover the bottom end. Ask Ray Manzarek... The Doors didn't have a bass player either (several exceptions in certain studio recordings). Ray used a Keyboard Bass for gigs.
Besides, given the time frame, The Archies would have obviously been mixed for AM radio-- who needs a bass for AM airplay? You can't hear it anyway.

Ditto The Rascals. But in the 60s comics, there are plenty of examples of guitars that look nothing like actual instruments.

Got back some more of my comics back from the bindery to add to my library - Steel. Collects. Man of Steel 22, Steel 1-52, Steel Annual 1 - Uncle Sam & The Freedom Fighters. Collects Battle for Bludhaven, Uncle Sam & the Freedom Fighters 1-8, Uncle Sam & Freedom Fighters (vol 2) 1-8, and Freedom Fighters 1-9 - Hawkworld. Collects the Hawkman Mini 1-3, Hawkworld 1-32 I try to make my covers interesting. Some of the comic book covers are great and are suitable to use and then I like to change things up and use other art as the cover. Steel, I used the covers as I did with Hawkworld. Uncle Sam... well, I like a lot of the covers but there's so much text on them it made it tough. Since the Freedom Fighters were originally going against the Nazi on Earth-X, I wanted to use WWII era posters as morale.

I think Hawkworld was an underrated series... at least for the first 20 issues or so.

I loved Hawkworld. But I'm a big fan of Ostrander and Truman both.

Agreed. That crossover in the mid-teens (War of the Gods) sort of hampers the story with the crossover book (I'm blanking) on it bur it ramps with Escape from Thanagar until the end with Truman doing the final art on the series. Nice. I think Hawkworld was an underrated series... at least for the first 20 issues or so.
I loved Hawkworld. But I'm a big fan of Ostrander and Truman both. Likewise. Love the Ostrich. I think I have all of his works. As for Truman, I don't have all of Scout. I don't think I've read it all but I love his DC books a lot. And Grimjack, I have almost all of it

I loved Hawkworld. But I'm a big fan of Ostrander and Truman both. Likewise here as well. I think Ostrander's '90s Spectre series is the best written run of the character. Truman is also a good writer as well as artist, and aside from the obvious Scout series, his work on the various Jonah Hex Vertigo books is also notable.
