Atari Force is a series I really need to collect. So much great Garcia-Lopez art! Cei-U! I summon the feast for the eyes! Followed up by Eduardo Barreto who was no slouch.

Heard rumblings that Ollie's got a bunch of new stuff in, so I took a ride over to the other side of town to see if ours had anything interesting. Found the following 2 for $19.99 each (not a bad price for a $75 omnibus and a $50 HC. I have the first half of the Super Friends in a Showcase volume and Vol 4 of the GA omnibus picks up sometime after the 10 volumes of the Superman Chronicles I have leaves off but I haven't looked to see if there is a gap or any overlap yet. -M

I'm especially excited by that Super Friends HC. I didn't even know there was such a collection. A very underrated series. You got some great prices on those.

What does it offer, that the Omnibus doesn't?

What does it offer, that the Omnibus doesn't? It is a 11 x 15 book scanned from mint copies of the comic. It includes some other things like the original art to AF #15. No garish recoloring.

If they do one for Cap or Thor, I might have to get it. It's rather sad that Taschen of all people is the one to give it's customers a peak into what it was like actually owning a comic book from that time-frame as it was originally presented and not Marvel

I've been piling up stuff in the FB group auctions since the first of the year, and was waiting until I did a pick up and got the books to post, but I'm very excited about the books I got in the auction that ended today at 5. I spent a total of $10 today, and this is what I got... the DD #158 is a low grade reader, but for $4 I couldn't pass it up. The Man Without Fear mini was $2 and the pair of Batbooks were $4. Most of the stuff I've piled up before this was filler, but I will post it all when I do the pick up, but it might not be until March. -M

Well I've read that some of the Lee/Kirby tenured Thor Omnis include the letters pages, so that's kind of a step in the right direction. I've kind of become largely indifferent to the coloring after owning and reading several Epic Collections and one Omni. It's not fantastic, but it does the job

That DD # 158 alone used to be worth a pretty penny.

It's the same colors, but the Omnibus doesn't respect the dots. That's something I've always regretted over the entire Marvel Digital collection too.
A pitty they only did the early issues, or I would've gotten this instead. Strange too, that they would cannibalize copies of the most expensive comics. Hard to imagine it's a better business venture than simply selling them.

They are not cannibalizing anything, scanning doesn't destroy the comics. And the colors are noticeably different in value and intensity.
Flip through of both;

As I said, I have the Omnibus, I've already flipped trough it. The difference in intensity is due to paper and reproduction process. I don't know about value.

Yes, the difference is because they have not changed the color percentages to compensate for the differences in paper and technology. So the colors that were used for newsprint turn out much more intense and often garish on slick, higher end paper. The original colorists new they were working for comics on newsprint and never intended for them to look that way. The "same colors" argument is fallacious when the results are so vastly different. Would you put the same amount of salt in a sauce whether you were making a quart or a gallon?
