Went to my lcs today to pick up my pulls and some bags and boards. They had put out a bunch of new 50 cent boxes, so I spent time flipping through them, and wound up picking up 16 books, mostly 80s indies and red dress covers, but a few other tidbits as well... First the red dress covers, mostly Archie related, one Richie Rich. There were a number of variant covers of Archie 666 with different Archie titles, several had characters in red dresses, so I got a few of those, and an Archie Thor homage cover... Some 80s fantasy comics and other interesting tidbits... I also picked up some Marvel facsimile editions (Avengers #8, Spider-Woman #1, X-Men #137, Wolverine #1) and the first volume of the Mighty Marvel Masterworks Captain Marvel series. -M

I've had this several years. A nice, inexpensive collection, though the size and reproduction don't make it a great reading experience

I agree that the reproduction isn't the best, but it's not so bad that I've ever felt that it detracted from my enjoyment of the book. The contents are almost all really cracking good stories though; it's a very well chosen collection.

4 Days left for Crimebuster project. If there's anyone on our forum who can help get him to 3500, it would help him to not lose money on his dream project. I have the previous books, they're great. Thanks, George!

I went out to some comic stores today for the first time in quite a long while -- other than visiting stores while on vacation, I haven't just taken a day to drive around and check out stores. I hit up 4 stores, including one I have never been to. The new store had the goods, big time. They also knew it, and things were priced accordingly, so I didn't buy much there, but boy howdy. As a Wonder Woman fan, I was really impressed, they had a bunch of really hard to find 1950s issues including some keys like #105, which I have never seen in person before, as well as #108 with the famous wanted poster cover, #99, and also that issue where she's a giant climbing the super phallic Empire State Building. When I started talking to the owner about how good the Wonder Woman selection was, though, that's when he brought out the GOOD stuff! Turns out behind the counter he had like half a short box of Golden Age Wonder Woman -- about 20+ issues of Wonder Woman between #11-47, and another 20+ issues of Sensation between #22-104. Just great book after great book. And then he pulled out a Wonder Woman #1!Let's just say that was out of my price range! Anyway, I didn't end up buying much there, and two of the other stores were duds where I didn't buy anything at all. But in the fourth store I found a great book I've been wanting for a while, and at an excellent price. It's Suzie #73, which is a classic companion piece to the better known Archie #50. It's got great GGA, great cover design, and also a classic red dress cover for people who are into that sort of thing @mrp Low grade, but looking fine!

Picked up a whole stack of nostalgia in the shape of a bunch of late '80s Judge Dredd and 2000AD reprints from Quality Comics. The stories re-printed in these issues are all from the late '70s and early '80s issues of 2000AD, and many of them I can remember reading and re-reading back in the day. Got all these for about £20, which works out as less than a pound each issue. Bargain! I also picked up Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. #12, which brings me another step closer to completeing the short-lived series. This was a bit of a bargain too -- just £5.99, plus a couple of quid P&P. It's in quite nice FN condition, I'd say. Please excuse the crappy quality photos.

Yeah, Ollie's is pretty hit or miss. It pays to go in there every once in a while and see what they have. Last time I was there, a few months ago, nothing there really tempted me. This time, they had so much stuff that looked good that I couldn't even get it all. Of course, the graphic novels were all mixed up. I almost didn't spot some of these because that section is such a mess.

Lots of holes and bare shelves, but I did find and pick up Absolute Promethea Vol. 3. Looking forward to experiencing the J.H. Williams art in that oversized format. MSRP $99.99, it was only $19.99. -M

I've told this story before, but I still relish the day when I discovered a bunch of American Reprint Dredd books in my mother's comic book stash during my teens. They were utterly wild and I eventually hunted down every issue I could find. This was of course long before the Complete Case Files made it stateside
As controversial as this opinion might be, I think my favorite is the DC Comics Dredd series just because of how much of a weird drokkin' little curiosity it is

Drokk it, (or as they would say in the north country, "Gordon effing Bennett!") but oh my, that's a fine little haul!
If you ever run across Judge Dredd Classics #72 (same series, the name was simply appended to "Classics" with issue #62), snap it up for me and I'll reimburse you for troubles+postage. It's the only issue I need to complete the entire series, and it has eluded me for 20 years-- literally!

Here's that Absolute Promethea volume... This was my favorite of the ABC series. I lent my trades out years ago and never got them back, so glad to be able to get part of the series back in this format, which is usually way out of my format. They didn't have anything else of interest that I didn't already have, but they did have some early volumes of the Spirit Archives and the Silver Age Super Girl and Silver Age Suicide Squad volumes for those interested who have an Ollie's near them. The section was decimated with lots of holes on the shelves, so I am hoping they will get another shipment in soon, so I will check back either later this week or next week. -M
