Did some damage at Champion City, time to bring it all in the house and sort though it. This is the combined pile of stuff I got in the FB group plus what I picked up at the show (the box of Tarot decks was ours before the show). The plastic grocery bag is filled with D&D minis I picked up at the show. -M

Lots of books to sort through and get pics of, so going to do this in batches. Starting with the books I had been amassing through the Gem City FB group. These have been piling up since December I believe. Just about everything was won for b/w $1 and $3, and most sets ran $2-3. There were 2 books in the entire lot I bid as much as $5 on. This is batch 1 of that lot. Atom Ant & Secret Squirrel #1 from Archie, love me some Hanna Barbera. TMNT #39 from Mirage Heroes Return Thor #1 a pair of Silver Surfer Annuals A Lois Lane red dress cover a pair of Kona issues... A Barks Duck issue 10 cent Disney book one of the Lenticular Marvel covers homaging classic covers, this one Capt. Marvel/Hulk #1 and that's batch 1. Batch 2 soon. -M

^ That Daredevil 158 looks like it needs a pressing to look a whole lot prettier! It's also got a small water stain, but for $5 I am not going to argue. I was never going to spend what it took to get a high grade copy, so a reader is fine with me. -M

Ok, starting on the books I picked up at Champion City today. Turned out to be a Batman leaning day, as I picked up a bunch of Batman comics, among other things. Started with the first dealer I went to on the day. That dealer had 50 cent books and 50% off trades. I picked up 1 trade a bunch of 50 cent books from him, this is what I got (I was surprised some of there were in 50 cent bins since they were mostly higher grade copies)... The one trade I got was Vol. 1 of Showcase Presents DC Comics Presents for 1/2 cover. I've had Vol. 2 for a while but needed Vol. 1 and then the 50 cent books... some Miller era DD issues (2 Miller issues and 1 just after his run DC Comics Presents #3 (w/same cover as the Showcase volume) Some LODK issues (like I said Batman comics) issue 3 and 4 of Marvel Fanfare I already owned a copy of Pacific Presents #2, but I couldn't pass up Dave Stevens comics for 50 cents each, so I grabbed both copies he had... some Pioneer strip reprints... and a bunch of Detective Comics issues... and that wraps up the 50 cent portion of the day. Most of the rest of the stuff I got were dollar bin fare, though I did pick up 1 set of 3/$10 back issues, but I still need to sort and take pics of that stuff. I also picked up 4 D&D minis for $10 for our gaming group, but that Showcase Volume of DCCP was the single priciest thing I picked up all day. -M

The second batch comes from the second dealer I went to, and his dollar bins were mostly low grade readers. I picked up 7 books from him... Avengers 157... a pair of issues (of the 4 issue run) of Spine Tingling Tales... one of the 7 issues of the Sgt Rock title I still need, leaving 6 to go... one of the 2 GK Hardy Boys issues I needed and two Archie issues, both Red Dress covers, one featuring Veronica in a red dress, the other Betty and that is batch 2. Taking a break for dinner, I'll do the rest after dinner... -M

ok stop the presses! I found a few more books from the Gem City FB group that had gotten mixed in with the con books, so here's Batch 5 of the Gem City books... Marvel's Barbie #1 another current Batman issue... an interesting looking indy anthology book... 2 more True Believer reprints... and another Young Indy issue... ok, now back to Con books... -M

So batch 4, all stuff from dealer #4 I went to today. He's the only dealer I bought back issues that weren't $1 or less from, as he had a box of $5 books, or 3/$10 in addition to his dollar boxes. I ended up getting 3 $5 books (so $10) and 20 dollar books form him, but he only charged me $25 for the lot. The 3 $5 books included the following: Forgotten Realms: The Grand Tour promo comics Jimmy Olsen #24 (a 10 cent gorilla cover) and the Darkseid/Galactus x-over The $1 bin fodder included a $1 trade, some 90s nostalgia form me, and a handful of more interesting things... This Superman Rebirth trade was in the $1 bins, so I snagged it... Marvel Action Hour reprinting the comic based on Spidey & his Amazing Friends two issues of the Gatherers storyline with the metallic covers (part of the 90s nostalgia) some more Batbooks (I said it was a Batman leaning day) A Dick Tracy strip collection mini-trade and some Mandrake strip reprints some Marvel horror readers, including a red dress cover on Vault of Evil 5 some original Ghost Rider reprints... more 90s nostalgia with a Wolvie hologram cover and an X-Men #1 that's batch 4, one more batch to go... -M

Last batch of the day, last dealer I stopped at, last $20 I had in my pocket. I had pulled out 22 books and was attempting to decide what to put back and he just told me take the whole pile for $20, so these would up being slightly less than a buck a book. First up Superman #1 woohoo , ok well Facsimile edition, but yeah... a trio of Groo issues... a reader copy of Marvel's Godzilla #4 and another batch of Batbooks, all issues of Detective. and that's a wrap for Champion City Comic Con Spring Edition. Combined with the FB group stuff, I have a lot of books to process the next few days and eventually read. I didn't go today with the intention of being Bat heavy, or even of doing strictly dollar boxes, but that's the way it went, and I had fun digging the boxes and talking with my con crew for the few hours I was there. The show is literally 5 minutes from my house. Attendance was sparse early (it was scheduled opposite a big toy show up in Columbus at the State Fair Grounds, and was 5 minutes down the road from where the train derailment was which may have made it a little sketchy for out-of-towners, plus March Madness games, but the crowd picked up about an hour in, and it was still going strong when I left a little after noon. All in all, a solid comic focused show and a fun excursion. -M

I was looking for the 2-3 issue Marvel premiere series with ManWolf and George Perez but the LCS did not have it I decided On a whim Ito buy the Creatures on the Loose series with ManWolf. Never read the series but it’s Perez art.

Definitely worth it for the Perez artwork alone but my memory says it was a good read as well. Kind of an ERB planet-romance style, if I remember right.
