the promo issue that lunched the Waid/Ringo FF run, I used to have this a long time ago, but I love Ringo's stuff so decided to get it as part of the order filler... -M I have that issue, signed by Mike at a birthday party I attended. I got to hang out with him a few times... I saw Revenge of the Sith with him and a buddy, and we had fun tearing it apart afterward. Would have loved to have gotten to know him better. He was a special guy, deservedly loved by his friends, and adored by his fans.

That's a big haul, @mrp. You're back to buying comics like crazy. Well the FB group haul was assembled over a 4 month period, from DC-March, but rather than shipping them, I just pick them up from Jesse when I see him (usually at a show), so it seems like a lot all at once, but it averages out to 2-3 books a week usually. As for the show haul, I went to the show with $80 in my pocket for my buying budget, unsure of how I was going to spend it (a handful or pricier books? dollar bin diving? etc.) and it just ended up being a 50 cent and dollar books for the most part, so that $80 got a lot of books. But I came home with less than I left with, as I dropped off over 100 tpb and a long box of singles and purge singles to Jesse, which will be trade credit to cover probably at least the next 3-4 months of what I get form him in auction (he took it from my car and put them out for sale and had sold a chunk of it before I left at noon-he had had a cancellation and offered me the table for free if I wanted to set up and sell the stuff instead. but I wasn't feeling being a vendor and being there all day (and I no longer have the card reader or pay for the service so I can't take cards in payment, which limits sales potential). I have another dealer I trade stuff with, that I have a chunk of books on hold with and 3 Diamond boxes full of singles to give to him, but he's out in Illinois and I won't see him until Gem City in July when he's in town for the show. But we've been accumulating stuff to exchange since September, and I'll probably have a huge chunk to post then as well, so it seems like I am buying huge chunks of comics at a time, but I am only getting 2-3 books from him at a time, it just adds up over the months. I am actually buying fewer comics, it's just they are all getting posted at one time because of the way I am acquiring them. -M

Icctrombone may be on to something with me acquiring books. Yesterday, I stopped by the local vintage toy store. It has a small comics section and Aaron the owner had posted he had gotten a few new collections in, mostly 80s stuff. I was over that side of town for an errand anyways, and wanted to stop in to see if I could preorder the ReAction AD&D figures that were recently announced, so I browsed the comics while I was there. I ended up picking up a handful of books... the original WCA mini... Super-Villain Classics #1 re-presenting the origin of Galactus form several sources The Englehart/Rogers Silver Surfer #1 A reader copy of Our Fighting Forces #129 and JLA 236 filling one of the holes I had in my JLA run of 150 up. -M

@mrp, I keep fighting the urge to go to shows and comic shops because I just have too many comics that I haven't read sitting in my attic. We have the same disease.

I attended WonderCon this weekend. It was great to see my friends, comic dealers in a huge convention center setting (always a plus), creators and everyone having a good time. One of the main reasons for me attending was to see Adam Hughes and get some books signed. I posted my modern comic purchases on the MODERN COMICS section but picked up these 2 Dave Stevens beauties for 50% off.

I had to drop something off to Mrs. MRP at work today, and just down the street form her workplace is a little second-hand store that mostly deals with electronics (video games, guitars, computers, etc.) and collectibles (Lego, toys, Pokemon, sports cards, military memorabilia, etc.) but occasionally has some comics and vintage paperbacks, so I stopped in on my way home. They had a butt ton of CCG books, which I ignored, and a couple of short boxes of $1, $5, $10 and $20 books that I did dig through. I only picked up 3 books for a total of $7 plus tax (a $5 and 2x $1 books) a Dell Donald Duck... (#62 from 1958) Gene Day's Black Zeppelin #1 (this may or may not finish the run for me, my want list said I needed #1, my GCD database says it's #3, I need to go into the boxes and check, but for a buck it was worth the risk) and a newsstand version of Man of Steel #18 featuring part of the Superman/Doomsday fight from the triangle era nothing spectacular, but I'll take 50s books at $5 or less all day long. -M

Too lazy to post more pics but you get the idea.
Another 32 Archies pre 1972. These include 10 Giant Size editions - 68 pages each. Getting a bulk lot over 50 years old and in decent shape at less than $2 per book is the best way to go.
