For 80s songs, Wham's "Last Christmas," "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses, and "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" are all songs that I think are approaching classic status. But I don't know if my nephew cares about those, for instance. We'll see, I guess. "Last Christmas" and "Christmas Wrapping" are the first two I think of when trying to come up with Christmas songs from my lifetime. I didn't really "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" was so recent. I assumed it a 60s novelty song; it sounds like it's from the "Monster Mash"/ "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" era novelty song vintage. Looking it up, it's actually from 1979, but almost the 80s. "Christmas Canon" from Trans-Siberian Orchestra is from 1998, so that's fairly recent for Christmas song that get radio rotation. Granted it's not wholly original because it has elements from Pachelbel's Canon, but it's still its own thing.

There's a lot of great Christmas music out there if you look around.

The 5,6,7,8's! This ought to be a modern classic.

Radio stations that think that "These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things" is a Christmas song make me want to do something despicable
There, I said it

Lots of new-to-me stuff to explore here. I'll be making use of this thread when I feel more in the Christmas mood, which for me usually isn't until the week before Christmas Day itself. But then I tend to go on with it later - where I grew up, Jan. 6th was called Old Christmas Day and it pretty much went on till then.
I remembered another relatively recent one I like, though: Jethro Tull's Christmas album, which came out in 2003, according to wikipedia. I had a digital copy once that's probably still on one of my old hard drives somewhere if I can find it.
