This one is recent and still ongoing (Volume 3 is out in Europe but not here yet. It usually takes a few months). I think it's planned in 4 volume www.bedetheque.com/serie-60691-BD-Chateau-des-Animaux.html

Not bad going for me so far this year. I should finish Essex County later this month, which will free up some time for other "modern" (post-2000) comics. A bit of a change in plans for me was to start Terry and the Pirates last month, a strip I had intended to keep on the back-burner until I reached that era in my other reading. But I've been watching so many 1930s movies lately (inspired by the Favourite Film of Year X thread on the Community board), that I decided that that was reason enough to begin it now.

Unlikely I'll read any more this month. I did actually read a handful of comics, all of them being the first twelve issues of DC's Captain Atom from 1987-88. Solid, if unspectacular super-hero funnybook by Cary Bates and Pat Broderick.

I had a solid month. I'm still enjoying Strangers in Paradise even if I hate a lot of what Moore does with song lyrics and prose. I made a push to finish The Boys, which has its charms but is a bit of a mess overall. I also binge read 2013 books, which isn't hat hard to do given how quickly you can read a modern book. I did grow more interested in Lazarus and Suicide Risk on the second go around, so that's something.
The last few years of Nexus after Rude leaves are rough. There's a different artist on each issue and they all seem like they're doing a try out. It does from beautiful Paul Smith fill-in issues to newcomers. Maze Agency had the same problem after Adam Hughes left. I guess neither company had the cash to pay a better artist. The stories are mildly interesting, but pale in comparison to the first year or two.

So big month, not sure I will get to any tonight, so time to tally. 189 for the month.
Since it was Woman's history month, I spent some time with some of the Marvel Heroines on Marvel Unlimited, reading a lot of Elektra and Carol Danvers.
Highlights-Captain America: The Ghost Army (the Cap OGN done in partnership with Scholastic), Blue Book, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Paul Dini's Detective Comics, and Hellboy.
Lowlights-Scarlet by Bendis & Maleev.
The rest were all meh to solid, but didn't stand out in either direction.

Finished up my Hulk Epic collection to end the month... 70s Hulk is awfully repetitive! It's not terrible, but you can read one story and you get the idea.
It was interesting seeing the supporting cast develop.
I'm enjoying my 2099 re-read.. went through the 1st 3rd of Spider-Man.

I read the equivalent of 73 comics in march. Not much but I also read a book on the history of Dungeons and Dragons and started the massive book on the history of Drawn & Quarterly.
The best comics I read were
The Armed Garden and other Stories (David B.) Fantagraphics Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands (Kate Beaton) Drawn & Quarterly Les Cités Obscures 1 Casterman Les Cités Obscures 2 Casterman
I discovered Les Cités Obscures from the European comics thread and LOVED them. Great art.

Which history of D&D book? -M It's called "Slaying the Dragon". Haven't played in maybe 25 years but recently got a bunch of early 80s D&D books and it made me want to read about D&D. Not familiar with that one, have to look for it. If you want a D&D nostalgia fix, check out Art & Arcana, it's a visual history of D&D focused on the art... or check out the documentary Eye of the Beholder (it's on Prime for free) which covers some of the same ground There's a 50th anniversary documentary being made (produced by Joe Mangianello) that is set to come out next year as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration. -M

Our local library only had one e-book copy of Slaying the Dragon and a double digit long waiting list, so I requested a copy through interlibrary loan. I picked up the Art & Arcana book at Target for $35 when it was released. There's a very expensive deluxe edition that comes with a lot of prints of classic D&D art, the the standard edition which is around $40-$50 MSRP, but it's a huge almost coffee table sized volume loaded with art. It may be available in some libraries though. -M
