Closed out June with 45 books (or equivalent). That's the biggest month of the year so far. Some of it was review books. Some strip reprints. Some re-reads.

My laptop died a few weeks ago and I lost my data. I’ll have to piece together June when I get a new computer. This happened to me a year or so ago. I did have an iPad , iPhone and google docs , so I was able to get my info from there. That's what I like about apple, they sinc all their devices together.

It was my fault for not backing my files up. The Reading Club one should be easy to recreate. The other files I’ll have to start from scratch.

Huh. I guess July ended. Ended up at 49.5 books for the month which was the best of the year. Still reading far more prose than funnybooks.

I managed to piece together a list of comics I read in June before my laptop died, though I may be forgetting something.
I made it to the end of the original Nexus series. I thought Hugh Haynes' artwork managed to stabilize the book during the final couple of years, though the plots weren't up to the standards of the early Baron & Rude run. I've kind of lost faith in Baron as a writer, though, so that's hardly a surprise. Haynes attempted to ape Rude's style at times, but overall I would call him the third best penciller on Nexus behind Rude and Paul Smith.
I was slightly disappointed that the Dark Horse comics didn't continue the continuity of the First Comics series. Instead, Baron and Rude produced a one-shot truncated Origin issue, and then neither of them worked on the mini-series that followed. The mini-series is OK (the art's not bad), but inconsequential considering that the First series ended mid-story arc.
I binge read Rachel Rising, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and Brubaker's run on Daredevil, mostly so I could catch up to Waid's run. The Brubaker Daredevil run is okay. Not as good as Bendis' run, but decent enough, especially since I like Michael Lark's work. I had fun reading the post-Kirby Fantastic Four issues, but they weren't great comics. The most solid comics I read each month are Usagi and the manga. I've also enjoyed a great number of the 2013 Eisner Awards books I've read.
The Corto Maltese and A Contract with God were reading goals for this year. I actually find the Eisner work to be somewhat disappointing, but I don't want to open that kettle of fish.
I started reading the IDW GI Joe as a guilty pleasure, but I'm actually kind of enjoying it now.

I've been tying to stick mostly to things I haven't read before in the 1990s comics I've been reading - e.g. Sandman and Hellblazer - but last year I re-read Xenozoic Tales in a newish collection and this year I've plunged back into Love and Rockets, Eightball, and Hate, among other things. The impetus came from realising that I no longer remembered many of the details of those comics, not having re-read them since sometime around the early 2000s. It's been very enjoyable, but the downside is that it's slowed down my progress on other fronts. However, I'm now up to around the same point time (late 1993) on all these series so I'll get back to Sandman and Hellblazer soon. I also plan to re-read Dirty Plotte and Palookaville, though I'll have to do the latter in collections since I don't have all the individual issues.
In the 1950s stuff, after thoroughly enjoying Steve Canyon from its post-WWII beginning through the rest of the 1940s and most of the 1950s, for the first time it's beginning to lose a bit of steam for me, mostly due to the introduction of a new character, Poteet, a teenage cousin of Canyon's who becomes his ward. Her storylines have been taking up much of the narrative for several months and I've found them much less enjoyable than the mix of adventure and adult soap-opera that's carried the Canyon comic-strip this far. But I understand Poteet is written out of the strip sometime soon so I hope it'll spring back to life after that. Not that it's unreadable to me even now, just not as much fun as it was before. I already have the collections up to the end of the '50s so I'll read that far at least.

The equivalent of 42 books for me in July. A bit late as I was on vacation.
Nothing was amazing, the best book I read being The Private Eye by Brian K Vaughn.
I also read some Moomin for the first time and I quite enjoyed it.

I had another quiet month as I went on summer vacation and have been spending more time on family outings now that COVID restrictions have been lifted.
I finally made it to Roy Thomas' return to Conan in the early 90s. Can't say I'm overly thrilled with the CoTB issues. SSoC has been better, but a large part of that is the fact that Buscema is drawing it. Likewise, Nexus shifting to Dark Horse, while better than nothing, hasn't done much to advance the character or storylines. The highpoint is Rude's artwork during the Alien Justice limited series, which is some of his best work on Nexus since the early years.
I got the itch to start a few series I've been wanting to read, before finishing the stuff I'm already reading (sigh), but I get restless whenever I think about the books I've been meaning to read. So far, Dan Slott and Mike Allred's Silver Surfer has been a delight. Of course, that means it was cancelled after 14 issues. There's no accounting for taste, I suppose. I must be in the mood for humour, as I've also started reading several other funny books.
Interestingly, I randomly began reading some Grimjack after taking a long break from the series, and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I guess taking a break from a series helps at times.

I had a solid month. My biggest accomplishment was finishing Naoki Urasawa's Monster. I wound up binge reading the final third because of how well written it was. I also picked up steam on Kingdom. Hopefully, I'll catch up to the latest chapter by the end of the year.
With Nexus, I was stuck reading some of the pointless spinoff stuff Baron did at Dark Horse. The quality of these matched the quality of the backup stories in the original series. Nothing to write home about. Elfquest is quietly solid.
As far as Roy's return to Conan goes, I'm enjoying SSoC more than CtB, but I don't think it holds a candle to the Bronze Age stuff. It almost feels like a relic in the 90s marketplace.
I started reading Grimjack again, a series I've never really cared for in the past, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed the two issues I read. Maybe I needed a break from it.
Slott and Allred's Silver Surfer is a delight. Allred cutting lose on the cosmic stuff is a treat to behold. IIRC, this series was cancelled. You get the comics you deserve, folks. Superior Foes of Spider-Man is also enjoyable.
I grew a bit restless this month and wanted to tick off some boxes. I always wanted to read some Shanowner OZ comics. The graphic novel I tracked down was beautifully illustrated but the story was simplistic. I miss reading Terry Moore comics, so I dove into Echo. So far, it has featured typically good Terry Moore storytelling. I'm not really feeling the Jonah Hex series yet. It's all stand alone spaghetti western style stories and doesn't give us a lot of characterization like the old series did. I'll keep plugging away at it, though.

Only 18 in September. Just crazy busy month with very little time for funnybooks.

October was a slow month for me.
I binge read Terry Moore's Echo, which was a decent yarn, though I preferred Rachel Rising. I also finished Ex-Machina, which was okay but not my favorite Brian K. Vaughan series, hence why I didn't binge read it the way I did with Y: The Last Man and Saga.
I started reading some books for Halloween which I still haven't finished. Most of the rest of the month was spent trying to wrap up 2013 reads before the end of the year.
