I had that board game as a kid! It' a pretty reasonable game really, although it doesn't take too long to play and it was definitely a lot more fun when I was a kid. That pic was taken by my girlfriend, the night I decided to introduce her to it. I don't think she was overly impressed.  |

Hmmmm...judging from the position of my left hand, I'd hazard a guess that I was playing "September Gurls" by Big Star. ]Something by Bread. *sigh* Wrong!! I have better taste than you give me credit for, Mr. Bailey.  EDIT: I'm sure this won't make any difference, but I only own one Bread compilation that I kinda sorta enjoy and have maybe listened to a grand total of 3 times. Jesus wept, you make one error of judgement round these parts and you're marked for life!  For the record, no way would Bread get into my Top 300 bands or artists list. The Eagles on the other hand would definitely be Top 30, but not Top 20. |

I have a taste for sappy love songs with nice melodies, so naturally I like several of those Bread songs. Though come to think of it, my favourite is probably Guitar Man, which isn't a love song.

I have a taste for sappy love songs with nice melodies, so naturally I like several of those Bread songs. Though come to think of it, my favourite is probably Guitar Man, which isn't a love song. I have the 1977 UK compilation The Sound of Bread on vinyl, which I picked up a year or so ago (and made the mistake of mentioning it to Dan Bailey). In all honesty, it's a bit too slick and middle-of-the-road for me generally, but there are a handful of songs that I have a nostalgic connection to, having heard them on the radio a lot as a little kid ("Make It With You", "Everything I Own" and "The Guitar Man" mainly). An awful lot of the album washes over me without making much of an impression, but it's worth keeping if only for those three songs. I am far, far from being a Bread fan. |

We all have different tastes, of course, & rest assured that I'm utterly enamored with all sorts of sentimental tripe myself, but I viscerally hated those songs from the moment I first heard them on the radio as a kid. Great examples of the sort of puked-up-&-then-soaked-in-meat-tenderizer-for-good-measure pablum that made punk not only necessary but inevitable. |
