I would say that Amazing Heroes and Marvel Age qualify more, as they were fanzines about comics and published in a comic book format. The Betty Pages was a Bettie Page fanzine, done in a digest format, that was almost exclusively about her pin-up photos and film loops, as well as other models and and pin-up subjects. What little comic book content there was included a look at Steranko's work and Dave Stevens' Rocketeer. So, I would vote on the negative, in this particular instance; but, I also think it is a great cover (homage, actually). These things are supposed to be in the spirit of fun; so, I'd hate to see us get too restrictive about these things. It is in the spirit of fun and I like seeing all kids of covers that I'm not familiar with. On the other hand, people that are sticklers for rules will not vote for it. It's easier for a person to just enter an actual comic book with art that tells a sequential story. This is not exactly the subject with a small amount of possibilities. A non-comics magazine in this contest is an affront to all that is holy. Adamwarlock is a witch!!
Oh, come on now.... I'd rather you call me overly pedantic because I mentioned it, than to call him a witch! I'm not asking anybody to change anything. Apparently, asking for a rule/guideline clarification somehow makes me a bad guy?
I'm just looking for boundaries here. If there are none, just say so.

You may have thought that I was sarcastically making light of your post about this cover. au contraire, I agree with you that this doesn't belong, I was just saying it in a hyperbolic fashion. Burn that post at the stake!

A ruling was made some time ago, following a vote, that fanzines etc. were permissible. I believe the intention was that it apply to comic-related fanzines such as Marvel Age and Amazing Heroes which featured art by comic professionals, but I don't recall if that was specifically spelled out.
If any of the old hands can recall exactly when this ruling was made and can provide a link, that be awesome and save me having to trawl through the archive.

With that kind of ambiguity, (not yours, but the possibly apocryphal guideline itself) it sounds like more of a mere suggestion than anything else, I say we just let it roll. I didn't mean to imply that we should open up the cave of SHAZAM and dredge through the ancient tome of posts. From here on, if somebody posts a cover of New Yorker, Saturday Evening Post, or even Ladies Home Journal, you won't hear about it from me.
Bring on the covers!

Regarding foxley 's post about the link: It was back in 2017--the vote was 9 in favor, 8 opposed. classiccomics.org/thread/4475/classic-comics-contest-proposed-addition?page=2Since then, yes, people have occasionally posted covers of fanzines that seemed to be--assuming I'm recalling correctly--directly connected to or focused on comic books/strips. Speaking for myself (obviously), I'm not much of a fanzine fan or aficionado. So for me, I try to adhere to this statement in the rules: "Cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume published before (10 years ago)." YMMV

YMMV Yeah, pretty much the decision was let voters decide on Tuesday, which is what my default is now for any entry as long as it is 10 years old or older. It's all just for fun anyways. But I get it, iirc, I was one of the folks who brought up the objection to the fanzine entry initially, but the vote didn't support that, so let the voters decide. -M

Next thing you know, the Modern Forum will vote to break away from the board and we will spend the next several years negotiating the exit. I say we leave it to whoever crosses the Danger Room first.

Honourable mention to kirby101, The Thing in a fedora is pretty damn impressive, but I just had to vote for a cover featuring not only the Mad Hatter, but lots of hats.
