As the OP, let me clarify : Professional comic fanzines, like, but not limited to anything put out from the outstanding TwoMorrows, including The Jack Kirby Collector, Alter Ego, Back Issue and other pro-zines including Fantagraphics' The Comics Journal, Amazing Heroes and other from before 2007 like The Buyer's Guide for Comic Book Fandom, Comic Buyers Guide, Rocket's Blast Comic Collector (RBCC), The Comics Readers, Comic Times, Comics Interview, Comic Book Artist, Comics Scene, Marvel Age, Amazing World of DC Comics, Wizard, Comic Collector, etc. Here are some covers from those publications to illustrate that these are indeed professional level by professional comic book artists cover by Bill Wray cover by Bernie Wrightson cover by John Severin cover by Carmine Infantino Does this help ?

To me the difference would be that fanzines are magazines about comics rather than actual comics themselves, but I don't have any strong feelings about allowing them in the contest or not.
Myself, I always think the black & white mags like SSoC or the Warren mags should be a separate thing, because the painted covers are so different from the 4-colour comics covers. But then Gold Key used to have a lot of painted covers, so where do you draw the line?

I voted 'no' because this could be a slippery slope. While we can more-or-less agree on whether something is a comic, if we let fanzines in, where do we draw the line? Are portfolios by comics artists allowed? Sketch books? Posters?
I'd really rather just keep it to comics.

I voted No for pretty much the same reason... but why can't there be a fanzine cover contest for those people that want to showcase fanzine covers instead? Two competitions a week isn't going to break the site surely?

I voted "Yes" only because there wasn't an option for "Who gives a flying f&$% since it's just a fun little contest between internet friends and forum members?"

I went yes because for me, the point of this is just to see some cool new covers I haven't seen before. So having the chance to get exposed to cool covers from fanzines I haven't seen before seems like fun. I don't think it will actually impact the contest either way.

I voted "yes". If someone submits a fanzine, I can just vote for something else.

I vote yes because one of the things that would cause me to vote for a cover is that it's great and I have not seen it a thousand times before. Including fanzine covers opens up a slew of great drawings by some of the greatest artists, artwork that you might be unfamiliar with. I'm sure I'll be posting fanzine covers soon. Don't vote for it if it disturbs you

I'm chaotic neutral, so the fewer rules the better. If somebody wants to post a fanzine cover, sure. If somebody else wants to withhold a vote because it's a fanzine, sure. Unfair advantage? I suppose with some topics, but I really don't see a big problem here. I don't think we'll see many such covers used, since they're probably less memorable (not connected to favorite titles or stories) and less easily searched. So I'm going yes.

Sure. Why not? If someone doesn't like it they don't have to vote for it. This is why I voted yes

There are some beautiful covers there by the same great artists that have worked on those covers we all love. If, for some reason, a person doesn't feel inclined to vote for them cause their a zine, then, ok, maybe like someone wouldn't vote for an underground, or a title or artist they've never heard of, or just out right thinks it's ugly, or whatever

I guess we would have to change the title to Classic Cover Contest and leave out the Comics part.
