Actually, the pop culture landscape is so fragmented these days and there are so many "tribes," I don't think there's any single set of attributes that constitutes "hip."

Only to 10 year olds. Maybe Kami Garcia if you're going there or Claudia Gray (though she was more the it thing a few years ago) I’d definitely trust a 10 year old to tell me what’s hip over a 40-60 year old man. ok that's fair. I was thinking 'hip' is more 15-24 age range, but you're not wrong. |

Honestly, these days I wouldn't recognize "hip" even if it wore a big name tag that said "Hello, I'm Hip." Cei-U! I summon the cluelessness! I don't know half the time what my sons are saying when it comes to Gen Z slang. Thank god for Urban Dictionary. I was picking up our oldest son from his lady friend's house one day after work. He looks at me and say "Dad I got more drip than you." "More what?" "Drip. Style Dad." "The hell you do son, I just came from work and I have to do manual labor." "You got all dressed up for her (his lady friend)." |

It's from a Vertigo limited series called The Wake. {{SPOILERS}} I really wanted to like The Wake, and did like the first part, which had a feel of "The Abyss" or "Leviathan" movies... but when it jumped to a post-apocalyptic COMIC-BOOKY thing, I completely lost interest and didn't even finish it. |
