Yep. This is a great example of the way word usage changes over time. Like "iconic" which is fast coming to mean "really cool" or "infamous" or "emblematic". Like you, that's a change that irritates me no end due to its over-usage. That one absolutely sets me off and I consciously avoid the word unless it is actually necessary. The other one that sets my teeth on edge is any use of gradations of unique, i.e. "very unique" or "pretty unique." No! Something is either unique or it is not unique. There are no gradations.

Right up there with "irregardless", "nucular" and "chipolte" instead of "chipotle", as well as a needless point of issue being "mute" instead of "moot".
I think the last one is more of a southern thing, but I've heard it all my life and it grinds my gears.

Many forget that early Archie comics had Betty romantically pursuing Jughead. I always believed Jughead and Betty would've made a good couple, as both were more level-headed and genuine personalities than their best friends.
I remember reading one Archie story as a kid wherein Jughead demonstrated his aversion to girls by showing that he could identify which girl was touching him while blindfolded. Betty gave him the least amount of shivers, and he apologized to her that he just couldn't help it.

And in the mispronunciation category, tartanphantom, "relator" for "realtor" and "pundint" for "pundit."

After getting dumped by Crystal, Johnny looks up Dorrie Evans only to find her married and apparently 20 years older than him. Ahh, that sliding age scale strikes again.

Go Dorrie! Happily married, kids, that's the good stuff.
Sorry Johnny, you're looking for love in all the wrong places.
