I think I have 12 but I am not sure if a couple of them are going to qualify for the wonky criteria, but I am just going to post them and if they don't count in the final tally, oh well, as long as someone enjoys the post and we all have fun, that's all that matters. -M Yeah, that's pretty much my attitude at this point; I'm still not entirely certain that two of my picks fit the criteria, but they're going in, esp. since one of them will likely be my no. 1.

I think I'm sticking to my initial list this year, and I predict that exactly 8 of my choices will appear on others' lists. I think it's going to be a lot of fun; I've got some of the most important comics in my personal history, some that are just exactly my kind of reading, some that have seared themselves onto my brain, and some that I think are just some of the best comics you can do in their genres.

I thought I was clear but I just realised that a few short-lived series that I had unreflectingly listed as spin-offs of the same independent book weren't necessarily spin-offs, in the sense of starring different characters from the original, but just featured the same ensemble cast under a different title. I think one of them might still count though. I'll have to dig out the issues to see.

Had to disqualify Herbie Popnecker....although he first appeared in Forbidden Worlds in 1958, he was the star of his own feature story as soon as you open the cover. Sorry love, magic lollipop and all, I can't get you in this one.

And Squirrel Girl didn't get her own series until 2015, so I had to take her off my list. This one is a challenge, for sure.

Edit; Yeah , the OP says the series must start before 2014.

Squirrel Girl debut in a co-feature with Iron Man, so that might be problematic. Her ongoing series wouldn't count, but if you liked Dan Slott's Great Lakes Avengers stuff, you might be able to seek her in without worrying about the debut. Unless the Great Lakes Avengers are deemed to be the lead characters in WCA #46 in which case all bets are off.

I am REALLY struggling to get 12 entries this year.

Still waiting from Kurt on a selection. If he says yes, then I have to reshuffle my list completely.
Looking good and feeling positive. I'll wait on Day 1, seeing selections before posting my #12.I think I have some fun stuff...

I'm sure you're forgetting a lot of characters, unless that is because you don't care for them.

I had my quickest thinking of an entry to realising it didn't qualify today. I vaguely remembered that Queen & Country was a spin-off from Whiteout. However, when I checked, I discovered that while Greg Rucka had originally intended Queen & Country to feature Lily Sharpe from Whiteout, when he developed the series he abandoned that idea and developed the new character of Tara Chace.

I'm sure you're forgetting a lot of characters, unless that is because you don't care for them. That's part of the problem; I haven't actually read very many spin-off comics, as they are defined by the rules. So even if I think of them, I'm like, "never read it!"

My thinking is that I really have to like the character. Deadpool is a great pick but I don’t care for him. But there’s a few villains that had their own titles. Those count as well.
