I'm lucky in that a lot of my favourite characters from the '60s and '70s weren't the major stars, e.g. the Black Panther, Moon Knight, so if they ever got a title of their own they're spin-offs there are a few right there. Unfortuntely, not all of them got their own series!
The one I had to re-think was the handful of short series that the Hernandezes produced after ending the first volume of Love and Rockets in the mid-90s. You'd think a title like Penny Century was a spin-off starring Penny Century but it wasn't, not really. Yes, the title character appeared in most of the issues but it was really an ensemble series featuring multiple characters, including many others from Jaime Hernandez's L&R stories. So I don't think it does quite count. However, there is one of those several series that I think does qualify so I'll narrow it down to that one.

Maybe you're right. I was reconsidering because I thought it could be argued that Penny Century, for example, wasn't really too different from Jaime's Love and Rockets material, featuring much the same set of characters, but with Penny Century a little more to the fore than in L&R; and I was going to keep Gilbert's New Love, since that one was centred around Fritz and Petra, who had appeared only a few times in L&R and whose supporting characters were mostly a new and different set to the ones that had been seen in Gilbert's previous stories.
But now it occurs to me that since L&R was both Jaime and Gilbert, their respective solo series were spin-offs, regardless of the characters. And looking at Penny Century again, it is kind of her series, even though many of the usual characters also appear.

I think a case might be made for it even under these rules, but I'd have to read them all again to make sure and I don't want to do that yet, since I've been re-reading the Hernandezes' work in order and haven't got that far yet. |

I finally just about have 12 entries for this year's event, which is a relief because I was really struggling there for a bit. Although some of them are only included because they were eligible, not necessarily because I think they're great comics.

I'll be away for most of the contest and will have access only with my tablet, which I only use while on holiday and feel very clumsy using; so my entries will probably be rather minimal and with few or no images.
