I have a question about series that were later retconned as non-canon. Are they eligible or are they considered alternate universes?

Does Marvel team-up count? I would say so.

Does Marvel team-up count? I hadn't thought of it but I'm inclined to say that Team-Up, B&B, and DCCP don't count because they feature established solo stars but Marvel Two-in-One counts because The Thing had never had a solo series to that point.

That makes sense - I was thinking how MTU was absolutely considered a spin-off at the time but Brave and the Bold wasn’t, which is strange. That also means that “Amazing Spider-Man Annual” (by Steve Ditko, natch) wouldn’t count.
Also Super-villain team-up would count…. Would the Silver Age Sub-Mariner fall under statute of limitations or would his Golden Age strip make him ineligible?

Not wanting to speak for Kurt, but what I've understood from this thread so far is that if a character debuted as the lead character in their own strip, even if that strip was in an anthology comic, their later starring in their own title doesn't count as a spin-off for the purposes of this event. So Spider-Man would never be eligible. And neither would Jonah Hex, for example. I was thinking of possibly having Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do as a pick because of the Black Cat's appearance in it. But after checking with Cei-U!, he ruled it ineligible because of Spider-Man's co-headline status. So it would make sense that Marvel Team-Up wouldn't be allowed for the same reason.

Is the co-headline status an issue? 'Coz that knocks out one of my choices. ( The P.I.'s: Michael Mauser and Ms. Tree, for the curious. This was Michael Mauser's first time headlining, but not Ms. Tree.)

I asked about the Spider-Man/Black Cat mini, but I said "I'm guessing that it won't be allowed as she's billed as the double headliner with Spider-Man?" Kurt answered that it wasn't eligible "as you rightly surmise." So I took that to mean that appearing in a double-headline series with a character who has already been the star of their own book disqualifies the character who had previously only been a co-star.

Again, like Confessor said, Kurt should make the final call, but I'm inclined to agree with him regarding The P.I.s (that one briefly crossed my mind as well). However, the series of Mauser back-ups in Charlton's Vengeance Squad from the mid-1970s would definitely qualify.

Yeah. My brain was thinking Two-In-One when I said I thought so to Team-Up.

Can you give me an example? Something like Elektra, Assassin. Elektra: Assassin would definitely be eligible regardless of its status as canon.

Also Super-villain team-up would count…. Would the Silver Age Sub-Mariner fall under statute of limitations or would his Golden Age strip make him ineligible? Since both Subby and Doom had previous stints as solo stars, SVTU is not eligible. However, Doom's strip in Astonishing Tales is.

I guess I'm confused again, I thought from my reading of the initial post that later runs featuring spin-off characters were eligible, how else could both Barks and Rosa's version of Uncle Scrooge be eligible as mentioned in the post? So wouldn't any Doom run be eligible since he is the spin-off character, and if not-wouldn't his solo feature in Marvel Super-Heroes preclude the Astonishing Tales run? The more we discuss this, the more confused I get what the actual rules are. -M
