I don't think you're meant to dislike Maggie. She just struggles with self-confidence, especially in the early part of Love and Rockets when things don't work out as she'd hoped with Rand Race. One of her defining traits is that she's always falling for the wrong people, and then when she meets someone compatible she grows restless and leaves for no good reason. She can't fully commit to Hopey, either. That's a large part of why long-time readers were thrilled by the most recent issue of Love and Rockets (Nov 2023.) It's worth remembering that these stories have been going on for 40 years now. If you've read the series from the beginning to the most recent issue that's a lot of water under the bridge. It also covers a lot of phases in Maggie's life. Issue 14 from last year put a huge smile on my face and made me misty-eyed.

I think mostly this is just one of those stories I don't relate to at all, so it's hard for me to care about. I'm about 2/3 of the way through. I liked the Rena story alot. Then there was one where they all end up in Costigan's house and Maggie falls for a stowaway/housebreaker that says he a baron. Seemed like a lot of random contrived stuff there... seems like Hopey and Maggie fight then don't fight at random and I never quite know why. I really dislike relationships like that.. just decide to be together or not already, I don't need the drama at all. I didn't think Race was going to be a major character, seems like they've moved on from Maggie working for him? It's a bit confusing as far as time goes... It's not clear to me what order the stories take place in.

No point in forcing yourself to finish something you're not really enjoying and possibly building a real aversion to it. Drop it for now and maybe in a few months or even years you'll find yourself feeling like you might want to give it another look; or maybe not, that's the way it goes sometimes.

I'll finish the trade I think since I have it.. I wouldn't say it was bad.. and the art is really good... just doesn't particularly grab me.

Finished it up tonight... this is definitely much more slice of life than I care for generally. The last story with Maggie working for Rand was ok (Rena is my favorite character by alot).. then there's a flashback mixed in with other stuff that I honestly just found confusing... it felt like there were things happening off camera I'd need to know about but didn't.
I'm glad I read it, but definitely don't feel any desire to read more.

That's really great, I've never seen a Locas chronology like that with years and dates, etc. I'll be making use of it in the future.
I used to buy the collections routinely until just before the time they switched to the smaller format. I have them all up to Locas in Love and Luba in America; I've thought of continuing on from there with the subsequent collections but have never taken steps to do so, partly because of the different format, partly because I'm not sure I want or need them, since I have all the comics and I don't think they add any extra material to the collections as they occasionally did in the earlier ones, e.g. Poison River.
I do have God and Science: Return of the Ti-Girls, since that one did add a number of pages to the original serialised story. If I find out there are more that did the same I'll try to get those as well.
