I just feel I need no explanation on some things. Another example is Daredevil’s radar sense. The fact that he had it, and it all ties into his radioactive origin, is enough for me. Should a creator feel inclined to explain it, I am not interested. I'm generally in that camp as well. I think if an inspired, passionate director who really loves and knows the character, works with a decorated vet from the comic world and it's a fun and interesting collab story-wise and visually I might be onboard. But most of the time they do it for the general audience not us, and it's pretty mediocre.

While I appreciate you typing out the link, Prince Hal, I’ll politely decline to read that. There are far better uses for my time, e.g. tracking down vintage 1950s DuMont Network wrestling clips…

I had a quick browse. “Radar as metaphor” was enough. No, I don’t believe it’s a metaphor. It’s a radar sense that helps Daredevil “see”.

I credit most people with being able to understand a metaphor, social commentary, etc. I credit the majority with seeing the social commentary in, say, RoboCop.
But the problem I have with “radar as metaphor” is the mindset that believes only one person “gets it”. The rest of us somehow “missed it”. It can feel pretentious.

I feel with a lotta these characters they try to over-explain or water it down for the audience, and in some cases I can understand why. I may not always like it or think it has good results, but I can understand a hollywood producers plight. But in the case of Superman, I feel there is no real need to do that. The character is bigger than his comic incarnation and is Americana at this point that has been around for a very long time. Much of what Superman can do can be explained by a toddler and I feel the audience doesn't ask that many questions anyway when it comes to the character. They just want a fun, bright movie with action and quality. As do I really.

I recall seeing a panel from a Golden Age comic, perhaps even from one of the Siegel & Shuster stories, where Supes explains that he treated his costume with a chemical formula of his own creation to make it impervious to damage. I never read that story myself, so I can't say which issue it's from. I'm partial to the bio-electric aura explanation, but this is a fine explanation also. Both are preferable to the Kryptonian supercloth explanation, which is just another silly product of the Silver Age which places undue importance on Supes' Kryptonian heritage that I don't care for.

Simple, covers everything ( no pun intended ) best explanation. Except mabie why his cape doesn't get destroyed for the most part, but as I said before, the audience really doesn't go to deep and cerebral when it comes to Superman I believe.

Sometimes I even go as far as not wanting an explanation at all. I like the 1980s’ M.A.S.K. toyline and cartoon. The heroes and villains all had masks with special functions. One guy’s mask allowed him to penetrate through solid objects. Another character’s mask could fire lava. One villain’s mask could fire ball bearings. One could, if inclined, ask how a mask could store lava - and seemingly have a near-constant supply of it. But I just went along with the fun of it. Here’s the mask as shown in the cartoon: I didn’t feel one needed to think too deeply about that kind of thing. The toys and cartoons were simply fun.

Good ole MASK, loved the cartoons and loved the toys even more. I was spoiled rotten. Yes to all the Superman stuff. I agree.
