I had a quick browse. “Radar as metaphor” was enough. No, I don’t believe it’s a metaphor. It’s a radar sense that helps Daredevil “see”. Is it RADAR, or SONAR? Technically, it's neither, since it's biological and not technological in origin. It's echolocation, presumably of the same type used by bats, cetaceans, et al, though that would require a fairly significant physiological alteration of Matt's brain.

I recall seeing a panel from a Golden Age comic, perhaps even from one of the Siegel & Shuster stories, where Supes explains that he treated his costume with a chemical formula of his own creation to make it impervious to damage. I never read that story myself, so I can't say which issue it's from. I'm partial to the bio-electric aura explanation, but this is a fine explanation also. Both are preferable to the Kryptonian supercloth explanation, which is just another silly product of the Silver Age which places undue importance on Supes' Kryptonian heritage that I don't care for. There is another element to consider: I am very sure that many authors would prefer to forget about explaining every detail with some technobubble. The problem is the readers: if they ask countless times "but why doesn't Superman's costume tear?", sooner or later you have to find an answer. That it's not "Get a life!".

...though that would require a fairly significant physiological alteration of Matt's brain. That's how radiation works. Don't you know anything?!!

...the Kryptonian supercloth explanation, which is just another silly product of the Silver Age which places undue importance on Supes' Kryptonian heritage that I don't care for. How so? On it's own it's just an explanation I find silly, but coupled with the other Weisinger-isms, I see it as another element in the trend to make Superman less human and more alien. I'm probably reading too much into it.
